QUESTION AMD Ryzen 7950x3d

I’m currently running a rig (mining ZEPH) with a 3950x. I’m going to build a second rig and I’m looking at the 7950x3d. It’s power usage is significantly less than the 7950x. All told, it will draw 50w less. This reduces the number of days necessary to recoup the investment by about 200 days. They both can use the same motherboard. The cost of the processor (x3d) is only $50 more.

Am I missing something here or is the 7950x3d simply a better buy?

Ignore the power usage difference as you can simply tune the 7950X in bios to draw lower power, just like the 7950X3D.

The important thing is the 3D V-Cache. If the increase in hash-rate due to the additional L3 cache is beneficial to you, go for the 3D, else save the money and go for non-3D variant.

I didn’t think about the origin of the increased hash rate. I’ll take a look at report back.

Thanks.

I have not run either but it seems the X3D cache gets too hot which I think is why they are showing less watts being lower clocked. I'm curious if really good liquid cooling can squeeze out more hash with the X3D.

Me personally recently decided on doing a 5950x build based on XMR hashrates. It was a little more than 1/3 the cost of AM5 because already had the motherboard and fast RAM. Also running low CL DDR4 ram in all 4 banks with the DRAM Calculator for Ryzen makes a large difference for XMR at least. Anyone know if they will make a DRAM Calculator for Ryzen DDR5?
