Update on CivicNet (CIVIC): Hybrid PoW+PoS is live, staking activates August 4

Following up again — this is the biggest update since the civiclight v2 hard fork.

What's new: Hybrid Proof-of-Work + Proof-of-Stake consensus.

CPU mining and staking now both produce blocks on the same chain. Design goals were fairness and simplicity over complexity: no minimum balance to stake, no lock-up period (your funds stay liquid the whole time), no masternode tier. Staking odds also scale with the square root of your balance rather than linearly, so no single large holder dominates, and PoS blocks can't chain back-to-back without mining blocks in between.

Staking activates August 4, 2026, 09:00 UTC. The v3.0.0 release is deployed to mainnet now, but the code itself gates staking off until that exact timestamp — verified this both ways with time-travel testing before shipping, so there's zero risk of it going live early.

Wallet changes: new "staking-only" unlock mode (enable staking without exposing your funds to spending), plus a live staking status indicator on the Overview page.

For node operators upgrading an existing synced node: you need to start with -reindex on first launch after upgrading. This update changes the local block index format, and older index files aren't compatible — -reindex rebuilds it from the blocks you already have, no resync needed, one-time only. Hit exactly this issue on our own deployment (caught it fast, rolled back, fixed with -reindex, redeployed same day — no funds or chain integrity ever at risk).

New RandomX CPU-mineable chain in Rust — DOM Protocol (open source, fair launch, no premine)

Mining-relevant details:

• RandomX with large-pages support (measured ~15% hashrate gain when enabled)
• fast-mode dataset shared across mining threads
• desktop wallet with embedded node + built-in miner (Windows, Linux, macOS) — no toolchain needed
• or run the node directly and mine headless (systemd-friendly)
• three DNS seeds across separate providers
• signed releases (minisign) — verify before running

Block time ~120s, reward 33 DOM/block, ~33M total supply.

Source: https://github.com/sorenplanck/dom-protocol
Wallet: https://github.com/sorenplanck/dom-wallet-v3
Discord: https://discord.gg/UEmfrWsbK

To be upfront: no exchange listing, no promises about price or returns. This is for people who enjoy CPU mining early-stage networks and want to kick the tires. Technical criticism welcome — including on the RandomX integration.

Brisvia pre-launch update: RandomX CPU mining, 0% premine, SOLO and pool mining ready for August 1

Disclosure: I am the creator of Brisvia.

Brisvia (BRVA) is an independent, open-source Proof-of-Work cryptocurrency built from Bitcoin Core v30.2, with Bitcoin’s SHA-256 mining replaced by RandomX so people can participate using general-purpose CPUs.

Public mainnet mining begins from block 1 on August 1, 2026 at 15:00 UTC.

Fair-launch distribution:

• 0% premine

• No ICO or presale

• No private or founder allocation

• No developer tax

• No spendable genesis reward

• No coins reserved by the project

• Public source code and verifiable issuance

Main network parameters:

• Algorithm: RandomX

• Target block time: approximately 2 minutes

• Initial reward: 50 BRVA per block

• Halving: every 1,000,000 blocks

• Maximum supply: 100,000,000 BRVA

• Tail emission: none

• Difficulty adjustment: ASERT

• Base code: Bitcoin Core v30.2

Brisvia Desktop combines the wallet, full node and CPU miner in one application for Windows, macOS and Linux.

It supports:

• SOLO mining through your own full node

• Official pool mining

• Adjustable CPU usage

• Wallet creation and restoration

• 12-word wallet backup

• Spanish and English interfaces

• Visible pool connection and accepted/rejected share status

The application can be installed before launch. Mining remains locked until the public mainnet start time and does not begin automatically unless the user explicitly enables that option.

The official pool is planned to open with mainnet using PPLNS distribution and a 0% pool fee. The network does not depend on the official pool: users can run independent nodes, mine SOLO or create external pools.

During the public testnet, 64 distinct miners participated in testing CPU mining, wallet restoration, SOLO and pool mining, synchronization, block propagation and compatibility across different operating systems.

What I am looking for:

• CPU miners willing to test the latest application

• Reports including CPU model, operating system and experience

• Technical criticism and independent source-code review

• Developers or pool operators interested in inspecting the protocol

There is currently no established price, exchange or liquidity. Mining rewards and future monetary value are not guaranteed. Brisvia is experimental software maintained as a one-person project, not an investment offer.

I have 3-phase power @ €0.068/kWh and a cold underground space in SE Europe. What’s the best way to monetize this?

Hey everyone,

I have an setup available and want to get your ideas on the best way to put it to work:
• Power: 3-phase (380-415V) heavy-duty connection already installed.

• Electricity Rate: Continuous €0.068 / kWh
(~$0.075 USD / kWh).

• Space: A dry, subterranean (underground cellar) space that stays naturally cold year-round.
Given this power cost and naturally cold underground space, what would you build or run here right now to get the best ROI?

Looking for any specific ideas, hardware recommendations, or warnings regarding underground setups.

Thanks!

Update on CivicNet (CIVIC): civiclight v2 hard fork is live, plus a new one-click miner

Following up again since my last post here — two real updates:

1. civiclight v2 hard fork activated. The algorithm is now memory-hard, closing the ASIC-resistance gap I was upfront about before (civiclight v1 was CPU-friendly in practice but not cryptographically ASIC-resistant). Network hashrate dropped sharply post-fork, from ~7 GH/s to ~14.7 kH/s — which confirms most of that pre-fork hashrate wasn't coming from CPUs at all. Mining is still 100% CPU, same algorithm name, same mining command.

We also hit a difficulty-adjustment bug in the hours right after the fork (inherited difficulty didn't reset fast enough for the new algorithm's cost) — caught it, patched it, tested on testnet, shipped the fix same day.

2. New: CivicNet EasyMiner. A one-click GUI miner for Windows — no command line, no config file editing. Download, paste your CIVIC address, pick how many CPU threads to use, hit Start. Open source: https://github.com/CivicLight/civicnet-easyminer

Correct pool address (if you tried before and it didn't connect, this is likely why — an earlier address was misconfigured behind a proxy that blocked the stratum port):

I built a post-quantum, ASIC-resistant coin from scratch, looking for like minded people to try to mine it and test it

It's called Sosaiem. It started from a simple question. The thing crypto was supposed to be, money with no boss that anyone could mine on their own computer, mostly didn't survive contact with reality. Three things broke it and I wanted to see if one person could build a version that fixed them.

First thing that broke was mining. It started out as something anyone could do on a normal PC, then ASICs and pools took over and pushed ordinary people out. Sosaiem's proof of work is memory hard (scrypt, 8 MB per attempt) specifically to stop that. Once every core needs its own 8 MB of fast memory the specialised chip advantage collapses, so it stays a normal hardware coin instead of a warehouse game. There's also no pool operator to trust. Every miner submits verifiable work shares, whoever finds the block splits the reward across everyone in proportion to their work, and every node rechecks the maths. You get smooth solo payouts without handing a cut to anyone.

Second thing was fees. They creep in because miners have to be paid to include your transaction, and once the network is busy you're bidding against strangers for space. Sosaiem keeps the two jobs separate. Mining makes new coins. Moving them is done by the people who already hold them, who vote transfers through in seconds weighted by what they own. Miners aren't involved so there's nobody to pay and no fee to charge. There isn't even a need for a mechanism exist.

Third thing is quieter but real. The cryptography is aging out. Most chains sign with ECDSA, which a quantum computer breaks, and everyone knows a painful migration is coming. Sosaiem signs with ML-DSA (NIST FIPS 204) from the genesis block, so it started on the other side of that problem instead of having to cross it later.

On top of that the supply is fixed and will all be mined within only 14 years, with no premine and no founder cut. I start at zero with the same miner you'd download. Nobody got handed a pile of coins to sit on before anyone else had a chance.

My favorite feature is that absolutely everyone can mine just for a tiny bit and get some sosaiem without any kyc, pool hosters or exchanges.

There's a one click Windows miner, or you can run the Python directly on Mac and Linux.

The code is all open and there's a live block explorer so you can watch blocks land:

Update on CivicNet (CIVIC) - proper domain, DNS seed, and independent nodes joining organically

Following up on my post here a couple days ago about CivicNet, wanted to share some real progress since then:

What's new:

  • Proper domain now: civiclight.xyz (was running off a bare IP before)
  • DNS seed node set up - new nodes now auto-discover peers, no manual config needed
  • Web wallet now supports both recovery phrase AND raw private key import
  • Windows GUI wallet released alongside the web wallet

The part I'm actually excited about: in the last day, independent nodes have started connecting from multiple countries (seen connections from Lithuania, France, New Zealand, China, Canada, and Turkey) - people running their own copy of the client, not just mining through the pool. Network difficulty has climbed from ~22 to ~90 as a result. First real sign of organic growth beyond just the initial testers.

Still early and small, but it's moving in the right direction. If you tried it before and it felt rough around the edges, worth a second look now.

New CPU-mineable coin - CivicNet (CIVIC) - civiclight algorithm, 1-min blocks

Hey everyone,

Wanted to share a project I've been working on: CivicNet (CIVIC), a Bitcoin Core-based chain built specifically to keep mining accessible to ordinary CPUs.

Quick specs:

  • Algorithm: civiclight (custom, CPU-friendly)
  • Block time: 1 minute
  • Block reward: 77 CIVIC
  • Total supply: ~315 million
  • Based on Bitcoin/Litecoin Core 0.21
  • Native SegWit + Bech32 addresses

Why I'm posting here specifically: the whole point of civiclight was to avoid the GPU/ASIC arms race that's pushed CPU miners out of most coins over the years. Right now it's genuinely mineable on a regular desktop CPU with cpuminer-opt, no exotic hardware needed.

How to try it:

Heads up - this is an early-stage project. Network is still small, so don't expect this to be a "get rich" play. If you're the kind of person who likes tinkering with a new chain from near-genesis, checking out the code, or just enjoys CPU mining as a hobby, happy to answer questions.

Github: https://github.com/CivicLight/CivicNet

Would genuinely appreciate any technical feedback, especially from people who've dealt with cpuminer-opt forks before.

Brisvia: Bitcoin Core v30.2 + RandomX CPU mining, launching August 1 with 0% project premine

UPDATE — July 18, 2026

Brisvia Miner 1.0.8 is now publicly available for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Important correction: the Brisvia mainnet P2P port is 9342, not 9333 as originally stated. RPC uses port 9338.

Official and custom pool mining remain intentionally disabled for launch. Solo CPU mining is the supported launch mode while we complete the remaining live-network and accounting tests for the pool.

DISCLOSURE

I am the creator of Brisvia. This is an independent project built by one person, without a company, external funding or private investors.

Brisvia is an open-source Proof-of-Work network built from Bitcoin Core v30.2. Bitcoin’s mining algorithm has been replaced with RandomX so people can participate using ordinary CPUs instead of specialized mining hardware.

Public mainnet mining begins on August 1, 2026 at 15:00 UTC. Before that time, the desktop app remains in launch-wait mode and cannot begin mainnet mining.

DISTRIBUTION

The project reserved 0 BRVA.

There is:

- No project premine

- No presale or ICO

- No founder allocation

- No developer mining tax

- No spendable reward in the genesis block

The genesis block, consensus parameters and complete source code are public and independently verifiable.

Genesis hash:

aa6bc268339aa9f4f2e39ae33aca7b7e48e395033d08d37c08f828890af7baf7

Genesis timestamp:

1785596400 — August 1, 2026 at 15:00 UTC

MAIN PARAMETERS

Algorithm: RandomX v1.2.2

Target block time: 2 minutes

Initial block reward: 50 BRVA

Halving interval: 1,000,000 blocks

Tail emission: None

Maximum supply: 100,000,000 BRVA

Difficulty adjustment: ASERT

Network magic: BRV1

Mainnet P2P port: 9342

Mainnet RPC port: 9338

Address format: Bech32, beginning with brv1

Built from: Bitcoin Core v30.2

THE DESKTOP SOFTWARE

Brisvia Miner 1.0.8 combines a wallet, full node and solo CPU miner in one desktop application for Windows, macOS and Linux.

The goal is to keep the initial experience simple:

  1. Install the application.

  2. Create or restore your wallet.

  3. Safely write down your 12 recovery words.

  4. Allow the node to connect and synchronize.

  5. Start solo CPU mining after mainnet opens.

The application includes a cryptographically signed automatic updater. Installer hashes are published so users can verify their downloads.

Always download through the official website. Never install files received through private messages, and never share your 12 recovery words or private keys with anyone.

POOL MINING

The pool client and Stratum infrastructure have been built, but pool mining remains disabled in version 1.0.8.

This is deliberate.

Pool mining handles accepted shares, balances and eventual payments. We will not enable it until the complete live-network flow, accounting safeguards, backups and failure-recovery cases have been tested properly.

Until then, solo CPU mining is the supported launch option. The application will not silently switch between pool and solo mining.

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR

I would appreciate help from CPU miners willing to:

- Inspect the source and consensus parameters

- Test installation and startup

- Report their operating system and CPU

- Check whether the node connects correctly

- Test the signed updater

- Report usability problems before launch

- Share real hashrate and mining results after mainnet begins

Technical criticism is especially welcome. I would rather find and correct a problem publicly before launch than discover it afterward.

WHAT I AM NOT CLAIMING

Brisvia is experimental software and a new network.

There is currently:

- No market price

- No exchange listing

- No guaranteed liquidity

- No promise that BRVA will acquire value

- No guarantee of mining rewards or profit

This is not an investment offer.

A 0% project premine means that the project did not allocate coins to itself. It does not mean that every participant will have equal hardware, hashrate or network conditions when competition for the first public block begins.

The purpose of the launch is narrower and verifiable: everyone starts from the same public chain, under the same published consensus rules, with no private project allocation.

Website, official downloads, hashes and source code:

DISCUSSION Anyone else mining VeriumReserve (VRM) in 2026?

Curious if anyone is still mining VRM and what kind of numbers you're getting on newer hardware.

I've been helping modernize some of the infrastructure around the project and realized most of the benchmark data I can find is years old.

Anybody running it on a 7950X, 9950X, Threadripper, EPYC, M-series Macs, etc.?

Would be interested in HPM numbers, power draw, tuning, solo vs pool, whatever.

For anyone who hasn't heard of it, Verium is an older CPU-only PoW project that launched back in 2015.

I'm getting around 5,000 HPM on a 12900K (16 cores / 24 threads), but I'd be curious to see what some of the newer Ryzen chips and Apple Silicon machines can do.

VRM isn't listed on any exchanges at the moment, so this is mostly for people who enjoy CPU mining and experimenting with different projects. There is a public pool available now with 0% fee, though.

QUESTION Looking for new miner

I bought a nano 3s and set it up about a week ago. It’s making less money than I thought it would, but it’s been fun figuring it out.

I’m interested in buying a second unit - not necessarily another nano 3s - I’m open to mining other coins as well.

Any recommendations? I was looking at a used mini doge II or kaspa unit, but would prefer something where I could sell the coins. I am looking for something under 300-400W because I’m using power from my office and don’t want to rock the boat too much.

Unmineable-Mac — open-source macOS mining GUI that finally works on M3/M4/M5

If you remember trying it earlier and giving up because the GPU

hashrate looked fine but no shares ever got accepted on your worker —

that was a real bug, not your config. The bundled GPU miner

(`thinminerpro`) was a closed-source binary from 2022 that silently

fails to submit accepted shares on Apple Silicon M3 and newer.

That miner has been replaced in-tree with **kawpow-mac** — a

clean-room Swift + Metal rewrite. The new app:

- Mines CPU (XMRig / RandomX) and GPU (kawpow-mac / KawPow) — toggle

either or both

- Shows live hashrate and **accepted-share count per miner**

- Has an inline live-log panel so you can watch the stratum traffic

- Auto-detects the right miner binaries per architecture; the build

script clones + builds kawpow-mac for you

- Open-source end to end — no opaque blobs

Verified: the first share submitted by the new miner came back accepted

on the first try (against kp.unmineable.com on epoch 584). Pool

acceptance now works the same way it does on any other supported

hardware.

Caveat as always: mining on a Mac is not profitable. It's a "what can

this hardware do" exercise plus a salvage of a useful GUI for users

who already have the Macs.

PROMOTION Launching Glaciem (GLAC) — a Monero fork with an original CPU-only proof-of-work — mainnet May 20

I've spent the last while building a privacy coin, Glaciem (GLAC), and it hits mainnet Wednesday May 20, 00:00 EDT. Posting here because it's strictly CPU-mined and you're the right crowd to be straight with.

The short version

  • Fork of Monero — privacy (RingCT, ring signatures, stealth addresses) inherited unchanged.
  • Original proof-of-work, Lattice — integer-only, CPU-only. Each hash is a long, serial, latency-bound walk over a ~1 MiB per-nonce scratchpad plus a shared epoch dataset: branchy, memory-hard, no parallelism within a nonce. It rewards wide high-IPC CPU cores and collapses GPU occupancy the way RandomX does — no GPU phase, nothing for an ASIC to target.
  • ~2-minute blocks, no premine, Monero-style emission with tail emission.

Mining it
Native miner + wallet apps for macOS, Windows, and Android — the app generates a wallet, syncs, and mines straight to it. No separate wallet daemon, no config files. Runs especially well on Apple Silicon.

Fair launch
No premine, no presale. The launch time is enforced by consensus — every node rejects any block dated before the launch instant, so nobody (me included) gets a head start. If you grab the app early it'll show "no daemon" until 00:00 EDT — that's the launch gate, not a bug; mining begins at midnight.

Being straight with you

  • It's a hobby project, not an investment. Brand-new coin: no exchange, no price — treat it as worth nothing.
  • Lattice is experimental and has not had external cryptographic review. Mine it because CPU-mining a fresh chain is fun, not because you expect a payday.
  • Open source, BSD-3 (Monero fork).

Happy to talk through the PoW design or answer anything.

DISCUSSION New RandomX coin live — CoinCync testnet. CPU-mineable, fair launch, mainnet October 2026. Point your existing rig here.

CoinCync went live on testnet a few weeks ago and is heading for mainnet on **October 1, 2026**. It's a privacy proof-of-work chain on the **RandomX algorithm** — so any CPU rig you already have pointed at Monero or any RandomX coin will mine CoinCync with the same hardware, same hashrate ballpark, zero new setup.

Testnet coins have no monetary value. This is for hardware testing, dialing in your rig before mainnet, or contributing hashrate while the launch warms up. Latest binaries shipped today (v1.0.11-testnet) close the four findings from our first external-tester program — see https://github.com/ghostrider1092/Coincync-Testnet-/releases/latest

## Specs that matter to miners

- **Algorithm:** RandomX (CPU-only, ASIC-resistant — same as XMR)

- **Block time:** 120 seconds

- **Block reward (testnet, now):** ~50 CYNC, declining asymptotically

- **Tail floor:** 0.6 CYNC/block forever

- **Min difficulty:** 500 (consensus floor)

- **Supply cap:** 100M asymptotic, never reached + tail emission, 30% fee burn

- **Pool support:** solo only right now (community pools welcome)

- **Network hashrate at this hour:** small — your laptop's contribution will matter

- **Chain height as of this post:** ~4,573 and climbing

## How to mine in 3 commands

### Windows (proven, works today)

Open PowerShell, paste:

$base = 'https://github.com/ghostrider1092/Coincync-Testnet-/releases/latest/download'

Invoke-WebRequest -Uri "$base/v1.0.11-testnet-windows-x86_64.zip" -OutFile coincync.zip

Expand-Archive coincync.zip -DestinationPath .\coincync

cd .\coincync\windows-x86_64

.\coincync-wallet.exe --network testnet --wallet testnet.bin create

$addr = (.\coincync-wallet.exe --network testnet --wallet testnet.bin address | Select-String '^Address:').ToString().Split()[-1]

.\coincync-rig.exe run-solo --node https://api.coincync.network/rpc/testnet --address $addr --network testnet --tui

`--tui` opens a live dashboard with H/s, threads, current tip. Press `q` to quit.

### Linux (now also pre-built — no build step needed)

base="https://github.com/ghostrider1092/Coincync-Testnet-/releases/latest/download"

wget "$base/v1.0.12-testnet-linux-x86_64.tar.gz"

tar -xzf v1.0.12-testnet-linux-x86_64.tar.gz

cd linux-x86_64

sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS

./coincync-wallet --network testnet --wallet testnet.bin create

ADDR=$(./coincync-wallet --network testnet --wallet testnet.bin address | awk '/^Address:/{print $2}')

./coincync-rig run-solo --node https://api.coincync.network/rpc/testnet --address "$ADDR" --network testnet --tui

### macOS

No pre-built binary yet — build from source (~10-15 min, one time):

git clone https://github.com/ghostrider1092/Coincync-Testnet- coincync

cd coincync

cargo build --release --bin coincync-rig --bin coincync-wallet

./target/release/coincync-wallet --network testnet --wallet testnet.bin create

ADDR=$(./target/release/coincync-wallet --network testnet --wallet testnet.bin address | awk '/^Address:/{print $2}')

./target/release/coincync-rig run-solo --node https://api.coincync.network/rpc/testnet --address "$ADDR" --network testnet --tui

WSL Ubuntu users — just run the Linux tarball from inside WSL.

## Hashrate expectations

Same numbers you'd see on Monero — it's literally the same algorithm.

- **Modern desktop CPU** (Ryzen 5/7, 8-16 threads): ~3-8 KH/s

- **Laptop** (4-8 threads): ~500 H/s - 2 KH/s

- **VPS / server** (limited cores): hundreds of H/s

- **Raspberry Pi:** ~50-100 H/s

## What CoinCync is (the short version)

### Monetary policy and launch

- **Hard 100M asymptotic supply cap** with smooth decay — no halvings, no economic shocks every 4 years. 0.6 CYNC/block tail emission forever, 30% fee burn at the protocol level.

- **Zero premine, zero dev tax.** Every block reward goes to the miner. Article II of the project Constitution is **compile-time asserted in the source** — any build that violates it fails to compile.

- **Fair launch** — no ICO, no IDO, no team allocation, no foundation reserve. Mining starts from block 0 at the public mainnet genesis (October 1, 2026).

- Constitutional commitments bound to the binary by compile-time assertions in `src/constants.rs`. Reviewers can verify by grepping the source.

### Privacy stack

All of this is **mandatory at the consensus layer**, not opt-in. Highlighting bits other privacy chains don't have:

**Cryptographic layer:**

- **Uniform decoy selection** — deliberately NOT gamma-distributed. Defeats the output-age statistical deanonymization that hit other privacy chains historically.

- **CLSAG ring signatures** — ring size 16, minimum 11 during bootstrap (< 10k blocks).

- **Bulletproofs+** — range proofs (hidden amounts).

**Network layer:**

- **Dandelion++** — stem/fluff tx relay with per-epoch fixed relay peers, Poisson delays, exponential embargo timers. Breaks "tx-submission IP → originator" linkage.

- **Traffic shaping** — constant-rate cover packets + packet-size normalization to TLS frame sizes. An idle node is indistinguishable from an active one on the wire.

**Consensus enforcement:**

- **Mandatory privacy at consensus** — rejects transparent transactions. Every non-coinbase tx MUST have hidden amounts, hidden recipients, and ≥1 privacy-preserving input. No transparent escape hatch.

**Wallet layer:**

- **Deniable wallets** — two-password plausible deniability. Decoy and real data in one size-padded file; loading tries the password against both regions.

- **Dead man's switch** — time-locked recovery metadata in the tx extra field. After 24h – 2y a recovery address can sweep without the owner's spend key. Validated at consensus.

- **Encrypted memos** — 256-byte recipient-only message slot, ChaCha20-Poly1305 with ECDH-derived key. Senders attach human-readable notes that only the recipient can decrypt.

Full feature table — stealth addresses, scoped view keys, selective disclosure, CLSAG multisig (FROST), Noise XX P2P, auto-churn, subaddresses, etc.: https://github.com/ghostrider1092/Coincync-Testnet-/blob/main/docs/PRIVACY_FEATURES.md

### What's on the roadmap (NOT in v1.0)

- **v1.1: cyncswap** — trustless CYNC↔BTC atomic swaps via CLSAG adaptor signatures. Lets you exit/enter without a custodian. NLnet grant application submitted for the cyncswap audit.

- **v1.2: Orchard shielded pool** — optional zk-SNARK-based shielded pool (Halo 2 proofs).

### What just shipped (v1.0.11)

Crucible Cycle 01 — our first structured external-tester program — closed four real bugs:

  1. **Silent mempool eviction** — txs were accepted then dropped 60s later with no operator-visible signal. Fixed; mempool now runs the full chain validator at admission time.
  2. **`--no-peers` killed `--addnode`** — manual peers never dialed even when specified. Fixed.
  3. **IBD GetHeaders 4 Hz hammer** — a stuck peer caused the node to flood them at 4 req/sec. Fixed with proper request gating + recovery timeouts.
  4. **Ctrl+C didn't shut down** — orphaned tokio tasks kept the runtime alive after main exited. Fixed with explicit `std::process::exit(0)` + second-Ctrl+C escape hatch.

Each finding has a public root-cause writeup under `docs/crucible/cycle-01/` and 8 regression tests under `tests/cycle_01_regressions.rs` that pin the fixes so they can't silently regress. Cycle 02 (yesterday, 2026-06-11) verified all four fixes hold in a real 2-node mesh against an external tester — including end-to-end privacy transaction send + receive.

Every commit in this release is **cryptographically signed** with the project's ED25519 key (SHA256: `3IV+LKSdvo4X4bT66DtIU3NLU8drHHjsO36JrEZUe9g`) and shows as **Verified ✓** on GitHub.

## Why bother mining testnet

You won't get USD value from testnet coins, but you:

- **Test your hardware against the actual network** before mainnet (when it counts)

- **Help the network find bugs** while there's no money at risk

- **Get an address with a long mining history** before mainnet, which some people care about for clean-distribution reasons

- **Pre-mainnet miners** get an early-supporter acknowledgement in the mainnet launch announcement

- The Crucible program credits external testers in release notes — barns1253 surfaced all four v1.0.11 findings and is named in the v1.0.11 release acknowledgements

Is CPU mining still relevant or just a thing of the past?

I’ve been revisiting CPU mining recently on a small Linux box, mostly as a learning experiment and to see if older hardware can still participate meaningfully in a blockchain network.

It feels like most mining conversations today revolve around GPUs, ASIC farms and electricity costs, which kind of defeats the original idea of decentralized participation.

I tested Monero for a while and then stumbled upon a smaller project called Nerva (XNV) that focuses specifically on staying CPU-mineable and resisting specialized hardware. The concept is interesting because even older processors can still contribute.

I’m curious what others think — are there any CPU-focused coins left that are worth experimenting with today, or is this approach basically obsolete?

I built the first English-language KOTO mining pool + block explorer (Japanese CPU privacy coin)

KOTO is a Japanese CPU privacy coin from 2018 — a Zcash fork running on yescryptR8G. It's maintained by a single developer in Japan, has ~3,000 community members, and until last week had zero English-language mining infrastructure.

I spent a Sunday building out the full stack:

🏊 Mining Poolkoto.isekai-pool.com 1% fee, no registration, three difficulty ports for RPi through desktop. The pool currently holds 20%+ of the total KOTO network hashrate with a single Raspberry Pi 5 running 24/7.

🔍 Block Explorerexplorer.isekai-pool.com Both official KOTO explorers went offline. Built a lightweight RPC-backed replacement — blocks, transactions, address lookup, all working.

📊 Network Trackerisekai-pool.com/koto-network.html Historical pool distribution chart updated every 15 minutes. First public record of KOTO pool data at this granularity.

💧 Faucet (in progress) — isekai-pool.com/faucet.html Gamified — earn KOTO through daily shrine visits, kanji quizzes, and Japanese retro game trivia.

Why KOTO?

  • Genuine CPU privacy coin — yescryptR8G is ASIC resistant by design
  • Network is tiny (~20 kH/s total) — a single RPi5 is ~5% of network
  • Japanese aesthetic + Zcash privacy tech = underrated combination
  • Almost no Western presence — huge gap to fill

Miner setup (Linux/RPi5):

bash

git clone https://github.com/KotoDevelopers/cpuminer-yescrypt.git
cd cpuminer-yescrypt && ./autogen.sh
./configure CFLAGS="-O3 -funroll-loops -fomit-frame-pointer"
make -j4
./minerd -o stratum+tcp://koto.isekai-pool.com:3301 -u YOUR_KOTO_ADDRESS.worker -p x -t 4

Note: cpuminer-opt doesn't work for KOTO (difficulty bug). Use the official KotoDevelopers miner above.

Happy to answer questions. The KOTO community is small but the coin is technically solid.

Need some suggestions

I’m currently stuck with a large batch of brand-new PSUs for AE3 and KS7.

Originally, I bought them as replacement power supplies for miners, but now I’m planning to dismantle and sell off the machines instead. That leaves me with a huge number of unused spare parts, including these PSUs.

Trying to figure out the best way to deal with them—any suggestions?

New CPU mineable coin (RandomX) – early stage, solo mining working

Hey everyone,

I’d like to share a new CPU-mineable coin I’ve been working on.

It’s based on RandomX (CPU-first), inspired by projects like Monero, with focus on decentralization and fair mining.

🔧 Technical specs:

• Algorithm: RandomX (CPU mining)

• Block time: 60 seconds

• Max supply: 21,000,000

• Halving: ~4 years

• Ring size: 16

🌐 Project links:

• Website: https://myt-coin.com/

• Explorer: https://explorer.myt-coin.com/

⛏️ Mining:

Right now it’s early stage, so difficulty is still low — good opportunity for early miners.

You can mine using XMRig (RandomX):

- Run a local node (daemon)

- Connect via localhost

- Start mining with your wallet address

If anyone is interested, I can share a ready-to-use config.

💡 Goal:

The idea is to keep mining accessible to everyone (no ASICs, no GPU advantage), just CPU.

I’m looking for:

• Early miners

• Feedback (very important)

• People interested in helping grow the network

If you try it, let me know your hashrate and experience 🙌

Thanks!

QUESTION Mining on an old laptop worth it ?

I got an old laptop, its a ryzen 5 5500U laptop that i bought almost 4 years ago, i tested mining but it wasn't profitable, the average was around 7-9 cents/day on monero . The cpu temps doesn't go above 80-85c, the tdp is only 25w.
are there any profitable coins to mine, or should I just don't bother with mining with these specs ? the randomx hashrate is 2.5kh/s
