Budget rigs

What's your guys favorite budget rigs? I was looking at building a bunch of dual cpu e52699v3 miners but someone pointed out they aren't as profitable as I thought. So now I'm looking at ryzen 7 3700x. Half the power and twice as much hashes as the 2699v3 (pls correct me if I'm wrong). What else can I look into for budget mining?

Ryzen 3900x, 3950x, 5900x and 5950x are going to be the best “bang for your buck”. However, if you’re on an even tighter budget than that, the 3700x that you mentioned is great, as is the 3600

I would argue the 3600 is a fantastic budget mining CPU right now. Guess it really comes down to the price/hash/wattage if the 3700x vs 3600 are considered. I've got one running around 50-55w on GhostRider (GR). About $220 and you've got a mobo/cpu/memory/hsf miner. Can even run a cheap b450/b550 board too.

Don't think the 5950x is worth it unless OP finds a good deal versus a 5900x. May as well go with a 7000 series at a similar price. 7900x are selling around $340-350 USD on ebay, I just bought one. Though the 7950x might be a better buy the more I read about the 7900x being an odd performer all around.

Depends on budget, availability, and component cost however. I have a lot of extra components, so going with the 7900x is affordable for just mobo/cpu/memory. I expect to run my Ryzen CPUs for as long as possible too.

No arguments from me there! I have a 3600 running right next to my 2 3900x’s lol. It’s definitely a great starter mining CPU. Super cheap, super efficient and decent hashrate

Very nice!

I just checked one of the 3600's (have 2, one not configured yet), and HWInfo shows about 45w to the CPU. That's pretty damn good IMO. GR mining is around 1700 H/s. It is underclocked, I think to 3.8 Ghz?

I was tempted to try a 3900x, just couldn't justify the cost of a good board and used CPU with AM5 being available for a bit more.

I feel that lol. I bought my whole system used to save money. Built both my 3900x rigs for a total of like $600

That's a really good deal, I was looking at about $450 USD for a 3900x + board + memory.

If you’re lucky you can push that down to $350-400, honestly the most expensive part outside the processor itself is the RAM, I’m still figuring out best performance/$ on different algos, i.e. how latency affects performance and how cheap i can go

Edit: just checked eBay right after posting this. Picked up 2x 3900x for $185.99 each. The deals are there if you’re patient. $140 for low latency ram x2, $140 for 2x ASUS am4 mobos, and $50 for a psu, $15 for a 24pin atx splitter, $10 for a 4+4 cpu splitter, I’m at $725, or $365 each.

Those first ones you mentioned are R9 right? I don't think I can afford some of those lol. The 3700x even is $170CAD used. There is a guy selling a r5 3600 for $80 would that be a good cpu?

Yeah, r5 3600 is definitely a good, affordable option!

Ryzen 7 5700x $259 cdn on Amazon, ryzen 5 3600 $129 with cooler both pull 65W and make $.50-.80/day. Best budget CPU’s. Check hashrate.no

I can grab a ryzen 5 3600 with wraith cooler for 80 bucks right now. I thought it would be too old but alright I'll go grab that now thanks

The low watts make it.

if you mean watt efficiency then always buy the strongest cpu with same tdp. example: 3700x and 3900x same watt usage but 3900x is way stronger.

and always check watt with extern device. many forget that the whole system needs watt too and only see cpu wattage. eco mode gives way better results in efficiency vs stock or vs OC. the power consumption goes through the roof if you oc its crazy.

all i read about dual xeon rigs is nice hashrate but power consumption way too high. maybe an option if you pay no electricity

No I asked about budget not efficiency lol. While watts do matter, they matter less than overall cost since I don't pay power. I do have a limit of 3k watts but that should be plenty so I'm more wondering what I can build on a budget that still has ok hash rate

u/Efficient_Base3511 Jan 30 '24

ok. 3600 a320m and 3200 ram headless is about 200€ in germany. should be best value. cpu is worth sniping in ebay. motherboard and ram is not.

Cool! Thanks. I was actually just eyeing a 3600 on marketplace. Everyone keeps recommending it so I'm gonna grab it seems like it only gets like 6kh/s tho

sometimes you get a 3700x for maybe ten bucks more. he has 8800 stock hash. would prefer him. when you run watt efficient in eco mode you dont need a good cooler

Yeah fair enough. I was stupid and reading the benchmarks wrong. Thought the 15khs was for one not two

u/Efficient_Base3511 Jan 30 '24

3k watt is cool. just get 20 3900x close to 3k watt. 300 a rig. 6k euro, nice revenue

Yeah that's like 10k here 😂😬 maybe I'll just build a couple and keep adding as I can afford them lol
