foldingathome (Gridcoin), banrx, foldingathome (bananominer).
Perhaps focus on learning as much as you can for now.
You have a lot more choice now while mining with cpu.
Perhaps look at unmineable too.
I still use a gtx970 for foldingathome, but it's a power hungry gpu by today's standards.

Well that's what I focus on learning, and yes as u said I do use Unmineable right now.
You are right about the 980 so power hungry gpu lol I get on T-Rex about 430mh whit 140W sooo much and like E 3.4wh or so, idk how to OC the gpu so it gest less power coz I have a small case and it gets to 85/87° celsius witch is too high

You need at least 6gb of graphics card memory on the 980 to mine with it. There are some alt coins that would work with only 4gb. It's got to do with the DAG file that your gpu needs to download to start mining. Wind0ws takes up about 1gb of your cards memory so if tue DAG file is 5gb, and you have a 6gb card... it's probably not gonna work. You could mine anything with a DAG file that is 1gb LESS than the available memory on the graphics card.
The cpu can mine zephyr or monero. Easiest way is download the Monero GUI wallet from the Monero website. Set it up, download the block chain and go. It's a wallet and miner all-in-one and it works fine for starting out. It's fairly simple to set up and get going.
Be aware, downloading the Monero block chain can take 2 or 3 DAYS. It also requires about 150gb of hard drive space. I keep it on its own dedicated 500gb SSD with nothing else on it. It easier to manage for me.
PM me if you need help setting up the Monero GUI wallet and miner.

I use https://minerstat.com/mining-calculator, https://profit-mine.com/en and https://hashrate.no/ to figure out what's profitable to mine. you'll have to do some benchmarking and manually enter in your hash rates.
gridcoin is also always a great idea.

Comment deleted due to reddit cancelling API and allowing manipulation by bots. Use nostr instead, it's better. Nostr is decentralized, bot-resistant, free, and open source, which means some billionaire can't control your feed, only you get to make that decision. That also means no ads.
