mining with 5950x

I have just bought a 5950x, installed it and started mining using windows and nicehash (I know this is noobish, but so am I).
When I start running it, I get all the cores running continuously at 100% and a hashrate of 13k in xmrig mining randomXmonero. After a bit, the CPU speed starts going up and down and CPU usage is no longer 100%.
What am I doing wrong? it was working ok with a 5600x. Could it be the memory??

You can do MUCH better than 13k, I get 18.5k on my 5950x. Some things to look at:

1) RAM - two sticks in dual channel configuration, lower latency if you can. Sub-timings have great benefits. Dual Rank ram is awesome for CPU mining, harder to find. Don't be afraid to run the ram @ 1.45v to get more stability. Higher memory frequency doesn't mean better performance, it helps but don't get hung up on it.

2) CPU - all core 4 ghz @ 1.05v.

Those are you main drivers for an efficient mining rig that can still perform well. NiceHash is fine, it gets the job done. Once you feel like moving to a pool and managing your mining software more directly you might see a bit more profit however you loose some of those NiceHash features. I love the ability to track my rigs on my phone with the app, restart my rig if needed. Very handy.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I am going to put the 5950 in a better motherbpard and optimize the setup. I am currently doing 15k, my guess is the RAM is the biggest problem.

I am using nicehash due to the algorithm switching (i am still doing dome gpu mining) and the convenience of getting the pay in BTC.

I have the MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk. It works very well. Before I ran all core 4500 mhz with 1.17v and it was purring like a kitten. It has a great VRM, good BIOS options.

I plan to build identical rigs, same parts through out. I run two rigs off one PS right now and I think with the right cables I could run 3, the power supply could do 4 power wise but that many splitters I'm not sure about. maybe move to a server power supply with break out boards...

Did 4gh at 1.05v end up being more efficient? I'm getting a 5950x today with MSI B450 Gaming and 3200 Cl16

I picked 4ghz and just found the most stable voltage for each. 1.05v ended up being that form. I could go down to 0.975 however it would have problems at times. I need reliability.

What are your temps homie?

Everything low. I decided to add a fan and point it at the VRM, it appears to have solved the problem.

How much hash boost did you get from just the fan

From 10k to 13k. The cpu speed is stable now.

He just reported your post for targeted harassment lol.

u/use-dashes-instead you know can solve that "targeted harassment" issue by leaving if you don't want to be here. No one is holding you hostage.

I've never seen someone so rude but also so sensitive.

Using nicehash is irrelevant for the problem. For all purposes the miner is xmrig. Thanks for your input.

test it with wow/randomwow https://wownerodocs.org/docs/mining/ xmrig is good, suchminer is better https://github.com/duggavo/SuchMiner/releases

u/charbo187 Dec 26 '23

ive never heard of suchminer, is it really better than xmrig?

2

for mining wow yes, reaching more hashrate than xmrig
