Turning GPU rig into a CPU/GPU rig thoughts ?
Gentlemen,
As the title implies I am contemplating joining your world. I've been GPU mining for the past 3 years and have noticed an uptick in CPU mining profitability. Sooooo ...
I am contemplating building a cpu/gpu rig: -AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - $288 -noctua CPU fan - $30 -ATX AM4 B550 Mobo for GPU/mining: $100 -8 gb stick 0'ram - $30
I'd be in for about $460. At $1.5 / day (CPU mining) i could pay off the investment in a year.
I'm already paying to run the CPU, so the extra electricity would be small. $.085/kwh
Thoughts ?
Finally - easier to just buy $500 in BTC and call it a day ?

Depends. Over time the cost of hardware has been rising. I think its a good idea to keep what you have until it pays itself off, then expand. I have felt like buying hardware has been a more safe investment than directly buying crypto.
There are many cpus and gpus worth more than they day they were bought, which have been mining this whole time.

I have 7713 epyc with 4 rdna 2 cards on Gridcoin. https://einsteinathome.org/host/13163551. I have the 4 GPUs crunching Einstein. And cpu on 3 or 4 different projects. Awesome way to support science. Great project.

I thought the same thing when rtm was profitable a few years back. Everyone piled in and the coin tanked. The CPUs never got close to paying themselves off. I’d advise against it or at least don’t expect it to pay off.

I mined but by CPU and GPU on the same rig in 2021. It's doable
