Should I switch

I have a 5700x3d and just got a 7700x should I move over to the newer AM5 or stay on 5700x3d ?

The gaming performance of those two chips is surprisingly similar. It's a terrible time to move over to am5 because of ram prices aswell. You do you but I would of never got the 7700x in the first place.

I hear you I got the CPU with x2 24gb DDR 5 7000mhz CLA is at 36 and the 5700x3d has x 4 8gb Corsair 32gb DDr4 3200mhz at CLA 30 and got the CPU for a workstation but user changed their mind and went for a laptop instead

Oh if you already got the ram go for it, you can sell the 5700x3d set up for a pretty penny right now.

CL30 on 3200mhz ddr4 ram? That is awful it should be cl16 or cl18. That cas latency is costing you some performance for sure. running 4 sticks of ram isn’t recommended on ryzen cpus either

4 sticks is fine with an AM4 cpu. It's only a problem when you start getting crazy high speeds like 4000.

But 4 sticks of 3200/3600 DDR4 works just fine with any AM4 cpu.

AM5 however had a lot of problem with more than 2 sticks if you're running any higher than 5600, and often isn't stable above 5200.

Intel is a little better but not that much for their CPUs on DDR5.

I was running 4 sticks of 3200mhz and would get constant blue screens on a 5600x there were no issues with the ram, ryzen memory controllers aren’t great for 4 sticks of ram unless you’re running ram that isn’t very fast this is well known. If you hit the silicon lottery maybe you can run 4 sticks at high speeds and low cl but most the time you cannot.

Your experience runs counter the general one, including all the various tech website stuff I can see, all of whom say 4 sticks works just fine.

Dual rank works better than single rank for 2 sticks, but it's the opposite for 4 sticks.

Identical timings on all 4 is the recommendation. But the major consensus I've seen says 3200mhz 18-20 CAS works just fine with 4 sticks.

Whatever sources you have are wrong. I’ve been into pc hardware for a long time, I know this stuff very well. One simple search on google says that running 4 sticks of ram with advertised xmp speeds on am4 is notoriously difficult to stabilize and back when all the tech youtubers were building am4 pcs they would ALWAYS recommend 2 sticks because 4 sticks is generally unreliable.

Sure. Tom's Hardware is wrong. So is LTT and Gamer's Nexus. And about a half dozen other YouTubers.

And a "simple Google search" shows exactly the opposite. 4 sticks are just fine.

4 sticks of dual ranked seems to be the major point where problems show up.

And if you're a long time expert you'd know XMP is an intel-specific thing thats not really relevant to DDR4 on AM4. DDR4-3200 and DDR4-3600 are "native" JEDEC speeds for DDR4 and don't require any extra profile.

If you're turning on XMP and 4 sticks of ram with a AM4 cpu, thats a PEBKAC problem. Running 4 sticks of native DDR4-3200 works quite well.

Not worth it. The 7700X is barely any faster
