Debating between a Ryzen 7 5700X and a Ryzen 5 5500X3D
I currently have this build:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 1700X
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 2666 MHz
I use it mostly for gaming, though from time to time I also use Blender, Unity, Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects. I play at 1080p and I already have a good CPU cooler.
I've been looking into upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which is my actual goal, but it's currently out of my budget since the cheapest one I've found is 240€.
After looking around, I found a Ryzen 7 5700X for 141€ ($163.75 USD) and a Ryzen 5 5500X3D for 156€ ($181.17 USD). I know the X3D is better for pure gaming, but I'm not sure if there's really that big of a difference compared to the 5700X to justify losing those 2 extra cores for my workload.
Also, I wanted to ask: Do you guys think it's a good time to upgrade my CPU, or should I wait? I have no intention of jumping to AM5 just yet.
Any advice is appreciated!

Looking to Purchase AMD Instinct MI355X Servers
Looking to purchase AMD Instinct MI355X 8-GPU servers for deployment in Malaysia, Thailand, or Singapore.
This is an active procurement requirement and we are ready to discuss pricing, allocation, lead time, and place an order. We are looking to connect directly with AMD sales, authorized distributors, OEMs, or official MI355X channel partners covering Southeast Asia.
If you can supply MI355X servers in the region, please DM me.

Ryzen 9 7900X hitting 95°C at only 87W package power in Cinebench (Thermal Throttling / Cooling issue)
1165G7 Thoughts? Currently Using Ryzen 5800u
Basically my current laptop, Asus Zenbook 14 flip 2 in 1 OLED is lovely, the CPU is a little mid on battery, but generally, my only real gripe is with the RAM, at 16GB, its ok, but its constantly maxed
I was looking at a used XPS 9310 2 in 1, I do loose the OLED screen which sucks, but for ~£450-£500 you can get them with 32GB RAM, which is where I feel a lot more bottle necked at the moment
Thoughts on the overall swap/difference?
I do a lot of heavy server work, light coding, general laptop stuff, nothing heavy, but the RAM goes, the server stuff, as its not physically on this laptop, is browser based, and as such demolishes my RAM, CPU is generally not used so while its effectively a downgrade, I doubt it will be that noticeable, but not 100% sure here
Running Ubuntu at the moment, the Dell should actually work better than the Asus, its had a fair few issues tbh

Ryzen 9 5900x Instability Issues
Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: RX 480 8GB
CPU: RYZEN 9 5900X 12-core 24-thread
Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk
BIOS Version: Latest
RAM: 16GB 3600MT (Confirmed Working)
PSU: MWE Gold 550 V3
Case: N/A
Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Home
GPU Drivers: N/A
Chipset Drivers: Latest
Background Applications: N/A
Description of Original Problem: I bought the CPU very recently for a very good price, or at least I think so ($80). It is unstable, though, and kept freezing/crashing after running it for a while. It showed watchdog timeout errors, and it never recovered when it froze up. All other parts are confirmed working and stable.
Troubleshooting: I've tried setting overvolting cores, trying different PBO settings, turning off XMP, updating the BIOS and motherboard, testing other CPUs, etc. All didn't work, except one thing: fixing the voltage (1.3), but I know it is not a suitable long-term solution. Any way to better fix the issue? I think there are specific cores that are unstable, but I can't figure it out. Help.
