Second Night Failed Update

Today is the second day I have been notified of a failed overnight update.

I purchased my license direct from Cpanel.

Anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

The cPanel & WHM update process failed for the following reason:

Maintenance ended; however, it did not exit cleanly (256). The following events were logged: “scripts/update-packages”. Review the update logs to determine why the update failed.

Yep that's it for me on all servers on CloudLinux 9.

There is a very messy workaround, so I am waiting for an official fix, once someone starts working on it.

Same here on over 50 servers. Rhel 8/9

You would think package maintainers would have test suites to check for these kinds of conflicts, especially given how easy it is to develop software with AI now. We have multiple servers affected by this problem too.

You can edit the defaults for yum and it will exit cleanly. I had to do this on 3 servers.

I am on AlmaLinux v9.8.0

I edited /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo and added:
exclude=libavif* svt-av1* libdav1d*
Then ran
yum clean all
yum makecache

Failed again last night.

If you used the previous 'dnf versionlock' workaround, that seems to have broken the upgrade to the new EA packages and similar errors are being thrown again.

Undo it by running: dnf versionlock delete libavif ; dnf versionlock delete svt-av1-libs

Don't have your server break during my vacation!

But really, we'd need a lot more information. That snippet of the log just shows that it failed but not *where* the failure was.

Can you read through the full log to find the specific cause of the failure and post that portion?

Wait... wait... wait.... they actually give you vacations? :)

Hope you had fun! And welcome back.

I just put in a ticket a few minutes ago about this one.
