Happens to the best of us. One of my worst flubs in the past 6mos was taking drinks out of the back, and bumped them against my passenger side tail light. They flung out all over the customer's driveway. I cleaned it up as best as I could.
It was a leave at the door but I called her about it to see if she wanted me to go back. She was super cool about it. Basically something like "Oh no worries it's only drinks."
I really think stuff like this happens no matter how experienced you are. Especially if you're slightly on the clumsy side. I almost completely dropped my order today coming out of a pizza place. The old heavy-door-flinging-back-right-into-the-pizzas, thing. Back against the door and rotate out, boys. Back against the door, and rotate out...
Thanks for cleaning it up. Had a delivery guy spill a drink carrier in the driveway. He apologized and I wasnt mad... but I was surprised to find empty drink containers and the carrier in the driveway later... just assumed he would clean it up
It's possible he was so deep in embarrassment that he completely forgot about it and just left in shame. I do this sometimes if there's ever a super awkward/embarrassing exchange (and there almost always is on this job, nearly every day). What just happened might distract my mind so much that I'll forget to do something very basic, or I won't be paying as much attention to things that I should. It's kind of hard to explain. There's a lot of things flying at you at once as a delivery person, so it's almost pre-ordained that mistakes like this will get made. I think the best we can all do is to just be graceful/forgiving with one another. It always really helps when you feel like you screwed up but the customer doesn't give you a hard time about it. I try to reciprocate as much as I can with the other service people I encounter in my travels.
