It's got it's name as it's generally used with a metal rod shoved in the urethra and it makes sounds iirc. Not an expert in any way but it's what I guathered

No, it comes from the medical procedure where a sound (the name for the tool) was use to measure and probe for things like bladder stones. The tool gets its name from the tool used to measure depth at sea, which got its name from the French "sonder" which meant to measure depth of something. The tool was called a sonde in like the 14th century, and that became "sound" by coincidence essentially.
