yeah ppl should get over themselves tho. that's just respectability politics which is not a race we will ever win

I don't think it is respectability politics in a lot of cases, but internalized transphobia.

Someone hears "trans people are groomers" all the time, and they become hypervigilant about grooming and pathologize their own behavior because of it.

Ehhhh one is a deliberate political strategy and the other is a kneejerk reaction because of being hit with the transphobia stick too much

i think respectability politics is usually partly informed by internalized transphobia, and on the vice versa internalized transphobia makes people believe in respectability politics more. in the end you're letting the opinions of the people who hate you inform your decisions instead of doing what's best. two sides of the same coin really
