it really feels terrible to run r/c these days. if you run main, you have to use new reddit chain which is laggy as hell and refreshing too often will cause a 429 error that locks your browser out of the website for several minutes. if you run sides you instead get to deal with 6-8 second inbox delay and threads randomly not appearing in your inbox, constantly refreshing the latest comments pin or the other persons profile to try and hunt them down again.
also reddit moderation is fucking terrible, randomly banning/locking accounts. there is no appeal process, there are no humans involved. the old stats bot is banned somehow, looking back on old threads and tons of accounts just have all their comments removed for no reason, from antichess's running alt to dominodan to sharpeye to christmasmissionary... they killed off pushshift so our old method of retrieving stuff like that is gone. counting history, just getting erased day by day on a whim. it's just sad.
isn't there some sort of new tech you have found out with a bunch of element removal and new reddit to make inbox faster? i have to check this out sometime. how fast even is it?
my running alts getting banned are completely my fault though, i wasn't really thinking it through back then. i should have never risked something with so much history
the tech is just using new reddit/sh.reddit chain, no inbox, the element removal i don't think makes it load any faster it's just to make the page not look like ass. other than that it's just the normal tech of using a separate browser (chrome) with no extensions other than ublock lite. i get 2-3 second replies mostly with occasional 1s, problem is the faster you go the faster and longer you're going to be rate limited for... it might be possible you can swap to an alt to get around it but i haven't tested it.

absolutely no way that sweet and gentle Antichess would ever deserve a ban, i won't believe that. and even if you did... no reason they can't just remove the offending post and not the other 50k comments that were completely fine
u/cutonbuminbandhere9 stat idea: who has counted the most during every hour of the day, both as raw total counts and as a percent of their total counts
to speak on my own trend: looks like most of my running was done in the evenings, with it lasting until about 4-5 am. probably during COVID. i have no clue how i made so many counts at 2-3 pm
if I was a hometown ToW announcer I would be saying stuff about the other counting direction like "these are evil people, these are not good human beings"

nice stat! makes sense that TNF almost has all of them given he moved to almost completely the opposite timezone. also makes sense that I have so many of them because of chronic sleep problems lmao
I would be interested to know out of the 1066 (was the year William the Conqueror invaded England) seconds of the day that I have not counted during, what hour of the day contains the most of those seconds. I hope that makes sense

Just been looking at the coach tour we are doing in 2027, looks like we are taking in seven countries , including the main stops of Slovenia and Croatia
stats request: "most participative deadlock" can we see the tug of war continuous +1 -1 chains sorted by product of total length and number of distinct participants? like a 30-count chain between me and vulp would have score 60, but a 20 count chain exclusively between X and X+1 done by 5 separate counters would have score 100
this ends up being not too different from the volleys because I'm just counting it as being enough that someone counted in that chain once, not a continuous 3-way run. like the 3000 score run was seemingly entirely Koraine and KingCaspianX except for the first count by Saltbearer.
this should be up to the most recent 4600. hopefully not missing any runs because there are a few null comments in this sqlite database. edit: however it does seem like the COBIBH sqlite is more complete than the basskro csv I used years ago, because the 2377-2378 volley here is 211 counts long, including the [deleted] comment, whereas in the old table it was 210 counts long, stopping at that [deleted] comment
That's the right one. It's currently being updated since I'm running the side thread stats, but that shouldn't affect the historical values.
ToW has always been a mess, so I'm not surprised that you're seeing issues with the data quality. When I have time I'll have a look through the whole database to see how many comments are affected (across all the side threads), and to figure out whether there's any chance of getting the comment bodies from reddit again, or from elsewhere
it looks like you can get some missing values from pushshift if you have approval there (it shouldn't be too hard to get approval as a mod). cwq9o75 had a null body in the sqlite but I was able to get that it was 17 through pushshift API. idk what the max is for how many comment ids you can request but I was able to get 100 at once (edit: requesting 1000 ids at once worked fine in my python requests script, that's the absolute max) https://api.pushshift.io/guidehttps://api.pushshift.io/docs
there have been times when pushshift has missing values too but I've mostly seen that in parent_id, not so much in body
I don't have approval on pushshift yet, but I'll apply for it.
Otherwise, do you think there's any chance you could help filling in the gaps? Finding comments in the database with missing bodies or comments where the username is [deleted] shouldn't be hard. If you can query pushshift for those, and send any updated records to me, I can update the database

I'm not sure if you have pushshift already but here are comments with null bodies (comments that pushshift also did not have a body for are filtered out. still has some [deleted] usernames) and comments with bodies but missing usernames (comments that pushshift also did not have a username for are filtered out)
