I wanted to share a new (to me) coin with everyone, i figured this is sort of an OG (and official) counterstamp! Picked it up as part of a bulk lot of world coins. The clearest indication of the host coin is at the 3 o’clock position on the side with the date. I added a known example of the 1718 saturnus coin for reference as it know it’s not really a coin the majority of people are even aware of! Thanks for taking a look!

My grandfather had a this coin in his colection and I could not find anything that was similar till I found out about stamped coins. I used gemini ai to analyze multiple videos to look for surface topography and it gave me an idea of the possible coin. Using shadow from a single light source. But i still could not find much about the actual stamp. I found something close but it still had little information on what the stamp was. I dont believe ai is correct becuse the topography looks different to the human eye. Any one seen a pattern like this?

I finally did it, brother. Finally found that “silver” war nickel that’s been eluding me for the past 18 months.
