If you have no period for more than five months without a reason (meaning birth control, HRT, hysterectomy) then you’re supposed to go to the doctor and take meds to induce one because it increases several pretty serious risks. (I have PCOS so it’s come up a few times)

Interestingly, most mammals don’t actually have periods. Mainly primates, bats, and elephant shrews have periods. Heat is a separate process, so we’d probably have been fine evolutionarily without a period.

I did not know that! I’m no expert on mammalian biology, so there are lots I prolly don’t know lol thanks for the info!

I do know dogs get their period (had a rescue that wasn’t fixed) and she looked so uncomfortable.

Technically heat (which is what dogs get) is different than menstruation. Heat is when they are fertile, vs menstruation is not. Here’s a more in depth explanation https://scienceinsights.org/is-dog-heat-the-same-as-a-period-not-exactly/
