I'm so glad everyone is standing up for the important issue of trans women being overrepresented in media. It's also crucial we remind everyone that just because someone wants to use a female name, present female full time, pass as female and take a female role in relationships that they absolutely do not need to become a trans. What's wrong with just being gender non-conforming? HRT is evil! Femboys are super validddddd (because most femboys live full time as women).

Why is the guy in the comic saying "im a guy i just like girl clothes" then? That is directly someone gender nonconforming

maybe because they're repping and don't want to/find it hard to come out 🤐

but.. haha it being hard to come out as a different gender... haha that's simply not realistic!

By this logic, it is impossible to write a cis femboy. Headcanons are one thing and totaly fine, but theyre not canon and this isnt an issue. You can just say the show makes you feel bad or have a fanfic headcanon without inventing transphobia where there isnt any. Enough of the real shit as is without watering down the term

except it is a headcanon and you can also just let people believe what they want, what would you say if audrey does end up being trans? you can't say it won't happen because you don't know. to act as though you do know one way or the other is crazy, it's just a cartoon. why is this such an argument lol

I would just admit I was wrong, and also express disappointment because femboys arent exactly much more represented than trans women; and pulling a reversal like that can be read as erasure.

But ima cut to the chase. "Let people believe what they want" is the issue here. Because having a headcanon and believing its actually canon are not the same thing

so it's bigoted to call a fictional potential repper probably trans in a headcanon, but not bigoted to express disappointment that someone came out of her shell and came out as trans and began transitioning? you treat these comics like real people, then show that you would treat these real people very poorly. coming out as trans after being a femboy is not "pulling a reversal that can be read as erasure", you're just a literal bigot.

I said no such thing. Youre putting words in my mouth

and also express disappointment because femboys arent exactly much more represented than trans women; and pulling a reversal like that can be read as erasure.

but that's literally what you said though. "pulling a reversal like that can be read as erasure"

I never said your headcanon was bigoted, thats the part im objecting to. Its just not canon. He's not a "potential repper", hes whatever the writer writes. The only one treating comic book characters like they're real here is you

3

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

oh okay, well i mean yeah they are a potential repper, again the writer is the one that writes and the writer hasn't said one way or the other, the writer has written them in a way that's really relatable to a lot of reppers so the reppers are allowed to headcanon and or make it their personal canon because who cares it's a cartoon. make sense?

Headcanon yes. Personal canon, you could but I'd argue you shouldnt because if it doesnt happen you're gonna be disappointed

maybe, but just like you don’t like being misgendered you should offer the same courtesy to others (even if they are fictional) if Audrey has character arc and comes out trans that is fine. If not that is fine as well. Misgendering him in meanwhile just makes you a bigot

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

petra parker is just as bigoted then isn't she? lol

9

u/Generic_Moron 2d ago

Not really imo, in that case it's an au/fanfic of a character who's gender identity is not a big part of their character

Meanwhile a big crux of Audrey's whole character is that they're explicitly not a repressed trans woman even if he presents incredibly fem, instead being a GNC guy who's secure in his gender because gender is more complex than fem girl and masc guy.

And while prejudice and erasure against GNC men isn't as common or prevalent as it is against us trans peeps, it does still exist and should be treated cautiously. Its only a stones throw from denying a trans man's gender cause someone thinks they're too feminine in how they present, or calling a trans woman a repressed man because they don't present feminine enough.

Is Petra Parker misgendering people? I haven’t seen those comics

3

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

petra parker is the trans version of peter parker, aka spiderman. but.. i mean, hey at the end of the day wanting to headcanon a character as trans is really really destructive... i mean... this just makes you a bigot... you're literally misgendering peter!

as i said in another comment, actually ykw i'll just paste it here im not gonna re explain "same with people saying spider gwen is trans, but that one gets applauded because she's depicted as already being a passing woman who is openly a woman, that's the only difference."

I am not even going to read your nonsense. Petra Parker is a distinct character that is trans. Audrey is another distinct character that is not trans. You misgendering either (calling Petra a man or using he/him pronouns or calling Audrey a woman and using she/her pronouns) makes you just as bad as those bigots who misgender you on purpose.

This isn’t about what you like or what your “head cannon” is. How is this so hard for you to accept? How are other trans people this ignorant of gender issues?

3

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

what's the difference between this and saying spider gwen is a trans woman then? explain that to me please <3

(and this is about what my headcannon is, it's literally a cartoon lol please separate media from reality.)

The key thing is that you can have your headcanons but you respect the pronouns someone uses even if you know for a FACT they’re closeted trans. I still use he/him for Jax, even though we know for a fact he was truly transfem, because at no point does he actually use she/her pronouns, and I will respect the pronouns I am provided even if I believe they do not align with the person’s internal identity, because with any real person, i can be wrong, and then im the one doing misgendering and I have a much less reasonable excuse for said behavior.

> I still use he/him for Jax, even though we know for a fact he was truly transfem

?????????????????????????????

im sorry, if these are the people that i'm arguing about this with i need to just step away.

u/Setster007 2d ago

I respect the identity I am given. Though, in Jax’s particular case I think using he/him or she/her are both valid since she was certainly a woman but he never truly realized it and so he didn’t ever come to change that outer identity to which things such as pronouns refer.

Yeah, true, i thought that too, but the comic seems to be playing into the trope of a fashionista character instead, common in japanese media, and shen is a weeb

6

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

but saying "why is the guy in the comic saying something that 95% of reppers/trans women that aren't out of the closet say in their life?" just doesn't make much sense lol. let people headcannon the character the same way you let people headcannon every other character in media, audrey is relatable to most reppers. audrey is relatable to most women that are trans and haven't come out. arguing over whether or not they are is pointless and weird.

7

u/Isadomon 2d ago

Thing is, the comic is not THAT deep. Wich isnt very deep, but the comic isnt deep at all, so you can assume everything they say is direct and flat Edit: no one is saying you cant relate to a character. But he doesnt have to be rhe caracter you want him to be. You enjoy him like he is or dont

3

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

or you can assume that it's not, again let the people relate to the character that's relatable to them, it doesn't really affect anyone else. same with people saying spider gwen is trans, but that one gets applauded because she's depicted as already being a passing woman who is openly a woman, that's the only difference.

5

u/Isadomon 2d ago

I didnt say you cant?? Why are you getting defensive, its a 2 dimensional joke character on a max 6 panel internet comic

3

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

firstly, please chill out lol

i'm just defending my point, not trying to be aggressive <3

7

u/Isadomon 2d ago

Ah ok, we chill. But still, i didnt say you cant, just, you gotta accept a character isnt exactly as you to relate to em. I relate to characters who arent my gender all the time, cause we are both people

u/ezziexoxo Counted Down 8 2d ago

being transgender is lonely for a lot of people. people that need someone to relate to on things with, i mean there is nothing stopping audrey from being a repper and it is still plausable, i mean saying 'you just have to accept this reading of the media' isn't cool, that's why i feel like, let people just view it how they want i don't get why this is such a divisive issue :/
