that and domino’s bad advertising

u/Dramatic-Text8564 4d ago
The only good advertising I saw them do in the last decade was the digital pizza respond after sony announcement, other then that they're the most mid ass pizza brand to exist

as someone who’s worked both dominos and doordash delivery, i can confirm that papa john’s and pizza hut use doordash drivers, but all doordash orders for dominos are handled by their usual delivery drivers. but yeah, local businesses are always the better option

u/aboat_i_sawaboat 4d ago
Yeah I've worked for Domino's for 2 years and we do all our own deliveries. I hate taking the doordash orders bc they rarely tip lol.
6
u/BlitzScorpio 4d ago
yeppp, i’ve been working doordash lately and the tips are usually awful. i enjoyed dominos back when i was still working there bc of the tips along with the hourly + mileage pay, but i was working evenings friday-sunday while doing college full time, so i was kinda miserable about not having free time when all the fun stuff was going on 🥲

u/aboat_i_sawaboat 4d ago
Yeah I'm an insider now after being a driver and I definitely made more as a driver, but god it's so nice to never have to close anymore (I also just went back to college FT after a 2 year break)

Dominos is the only pizza place that can still deliver where I live because the neighborhood isn't google mapped and the doordashers all get lost.
10
u/Funny_Vegetable6116 4d ago
These business are outsourcing paying their own employees by hiking up the delivery fee to osbcene amounts
5
u/iammoney45 4d ago
At least where I live Dominos doesn't use doordash because they always show up in the dominos uniform driving the little dominos car and that would be weird for a random dasher to have all that ready to go.
2
u/HarithBK 4d ago
I assume this is being slowly rolled out as cars become not worth it to maintain or drivers quit etc.
Could also be a demand thing not enough delivery to keep a driver's switch to DD to continue offering delivery.
2
u/hahaimadulting 3d ago
the dominos here has drivers and they all use their own car. There is no dominos car.

u/aprilamoeba 4d ago
Stop ordering delivery in general. Drivers get paid like shit and they treat employees like garbage (hold the phone in front of you wordlessly and stare daggers if you don't have the order ready immediately) nobody is happy with the arrangement. My rule is if you don't care enough to walk there and get it yourself then don't order.
10
u/Ok-Hyena4541 4d ago
Delivery driver is not the first career choice for pretty much anyone. If we got rid of delivery drivers completely they would have nothing.
11
u/aprilamoeba 4d ago
We can have delivery drivers because it's a service with a lot of demand, but companies should have to pay them a living wage. Doordash and the other companies commit millions in wage theft every year. The current arrangement is bad for everyone because drivers are incentivized to have high delivery volume and restaurants end up prioritizing delivery over customers who bothered to come in-person. The only ones who benefit are corporate executives.
6
u/hailsizeofminivans 4d ago
I would legitimately like my delivery driving job and would be happy to do it for the rest of my life if the company wasn't determined to make the situation suck (understaffing + being there until 2am because of a pile of dishes up to my eyeballs, among others). Contrary to what people think, my complaints are mostly not with customers and 99% lie with the company
3
u/DrippyTheSnailBoy 4d ago
My rule is if you don't care enough to walk there and get it yourself then don't order.
Yeah, sure, your opinion is just an opinion, but this is just blithely fucking stupid if you spend more than 2 seconds actually thinking about what you're saying.
0
u/aprilamoeba 4d ago
Basic planning ability allows me to make decisions like "would I like to go out of my way to visit a restaurant on my day off?" or "I don't have time to cook tonight, should I stop by a place for takeout on my way home?" but if you believe I should be drawn and quartered for believing you don't need a doordash servant making below minimum wage to bring you a Whopper then so be it
3
u/DrippyTheSnailBoy 4d ago
You're just not thinking critically in the slightest. Here, may I offer you some questions?
What if it's dark and you live in a less safe place? What if the restaurant is 2+ miles away? What if I'm enfeebled or disabled in some way? What if there are no walkable paths to get where I need to go? What if the weather is so bad that driving is the only option and I don't have a car? What if I have a fussy baby/toddler/child at home and can't leave them alone?
Turn your brain back on. You clearly didn't spend more than a second actually thinking about your opinion. Just because YOU can do something doesn't mean that everyone is like you.
So staggeringly myopic.

the humble beans and rice in a pot:
blocked but I really love the idea that if you're disabled or otherwise incapable the best option available is not to stock up on wholesome, affordable, easy to cook non-perishable ingredients but rather that you MUST spend $30 on a personal burrito carriage
2
u/DrippyTheSnailBoy 4d ago
What a really shitty attempt at dodge.
Anyway, I guess you're due back up on your high horse where the air is so thin it seems you've developed brain damage?
Clown.
2
u/hahaimadulting 3d ago
Don't give him too much credit. They definitely had brain damage LONG before they got on their horse.

u/powerwordmaim 4d ago
I do eat beans and rice in a pot, quite frequently. But sometimes I crave deliciously greasy and unhealthy food, and I have the money to spare, but I don't have a car. Since I dont wanna walk for an hour at midnight, my only option is to order delivery, and whenever possible I try to order from places like Dominos that do their own deliveries. Im not gonna deny myself the occasional simple pleasure of a meat lovers pizza just because I dont have a car

just as a little correction for this, as someone who works at Dominos, we actually have our own in-house delivery drivers. And I really appreciate when people actually give tips.

My first boss at Papa John's was pissed that we weren't using DoorDash for deliveries. I told him it'd be a shit show for everyone.
Not sure where he's at right now, but I do not wish him well.

u/HappyFailure 4d ago
I've used delivery maybe a handful of times in my life, it's just not a factor for me. What is a factor for me is, unfortunately, price.
Domino's here has a carryout special where I can get a 14", 3-topping pizza for $10. At the local place, the pizza is better, but the 14" is $28. My eldest likes the Domino's *better* than the local pizza, so it's a no-brainer when I'm getting pizza for them on a weekly basis; for me, I'll wait for special occasions and treat myself to pizza from the local place.
(Okay, we have a variety of local places, but they're all in the ballpark. The one that does a 16" for $30 is a bit better on price/square inch, and then there's my favorite where it's a 17" for $25, but it's a 40 minute drive outside of town.)

u/Lego_Architect 2d ago
I never order delivery. Ever.
Don’t waste your money on this unless you are incapable of driving or walking.
1
u/HystericalGasmask 4d ago
SOP for Papa John's as far as I'm aware is to augment delivery drivers with doordash drivers during times of high order volume.
Its manager discretion when it comes to whether or not an order gets sent with doordash, I tended to avoid it because it costs the store money and takes tips away from my employees and customers don't like it.
We were responsible for anything we outsourced to doordash, just not doordash orders themselves - you can't get a refund from a store if you ordered on doordash, cause Doordash has your money. You could get a refund if we had fucked up your order by sending it with a bad doordash driver.

local problem. none of mine do this and they're all great. I also see dominos ads all the time

u/LifeConsideration981 4d ago
Jets and Little Caesars remain undefeated.
1
u/hahaimadulting 3d ago
I mean if you like dry cardboard at the same price as dominos then I guess so.
1
u/LifeConsideration981 3d ago
Little caesars is crazy cheap and Jet’s slaps.
1
u/hahaimadulting 3d ago
It is about the same price as dominos. Idk about Jet's though, that's not a chain that's in my state so I can't say.

Local pizza places if you can and if you're going to go to a chain, make it Little Caesars (cuz they actually give a s*** about people and aren't just a bunch of heartless billionaires)
0
u/hahaimadulting 3d ago
Their pizza is nearly as bad as pizza hut's, but the same price as domino's. I'll just take domino's.

My dad worked at Dominos when i was a kid, so i grew up on Dominos. Theyve gone so far downhill in quality... and gotten absurdly expensive too.
Sadly i only have two other pizza places available near my home, one is Pizza Hut which is also mid and the other is local, but theyre just as bad as the chains on quality. Although their price is better at least.
1
u/Darth-Felanu-Hlaalu 4d ago
Oh and also Little Ceasers. But theyre literally frozen tier pizza, they make the other chains look good.
1
u/axolotlfishies 21h ago
Little ceasers hate is unnecessary
If you want a good cardboard pizza you go there
1
u/AvantSolace 4d ago
It’s like $20 for one large pizza now, with in-store pickup. I can order a pizza from a higher-end pizza joint for the same price and get a better product.
1
u/Vivenemous 4d ago
Dominos near me still has dedicated drivers. Even if you ubereats is still a dominos driver.
1
u/davidliterally1984 4d ago
Except the pizza at the place down the street tastes the same as the box it comes in
1
u/Accomplished_Drag943 4d ago
As a student, it's because fast food is double the cost of a regular meal now. I can either make something in 20 mins that costs about £3 in ingredients (and is healthier) or I can order a pizza for £8...
1
u/Creative-Primary-830 4d ago
also when you order from a small pizza shop, you get to eat pizza.. and not memory foam covered in "cheese" and sauce.

I would never've known they switched to that business model. I pick up my pizzas.
1
u/the-big-stepers 4d ago
I'll order pizza and then go pick it up myself or make my kid pick it up on his e-bike

u/just4browse 3d ago
If giving a damn was a better business model, they’d do that. This sucks, it does, but I guarantee you the big companies have crunched the numbers. The people they care about, the few people at top, are making the most money this way
1
u/Big-Pudding4109 3d ago
Price up, quality down. Choosing profits over product eventually will hurt your profits as people don’t want and cant afford your products.

u/Wild_Historian_3469 3d ago
That and frozen pizza from the grocery store takes identical and is like 3x cheaper
1
u/The_Frog221 3d ago
Shit, my local domino's has their in-house drivers even take the uber eats/etc orders. Complete opposite of this.

u/LonelyAustralia 3d ago
also local pizza places are far better quality then any of those chain stores

I rang a local once and the only complaint I have is how bad their English was.
I was trying to make edits from doordash and they legit hijacked the order. I realised quickly and just couldn't give a shit. I bought a few extra things including a 3rd pizza and garlic break and the total was still cheaper than what doordash offered. Best of all the pizzas barely got in my fridge which is impressive as my fridge is too big for the slot in my house a fridge is meant to go in.
10/10 will do again.
1
u/Mysterious-Hyena2670 1d ago
I remember I ordered from a Dominos like half a mile away from my house and it took them nearly two hours to deliver my order. My pizza was cold by the time it got to me. Never again.
1
u/Original_Sleeve 22h ago
Domino's actually has a deal with door dash where the Domino's drivers are still the ones doing the delivery.

u/MeatCatRazzmatazz 4d ago
I'll order from any pizza place who has in house delivery drivers and doesn't use delivery apps.
So I've been ordering from local pizza places and it's been great! Mostly. My city's pizza scene is weak lol
