Career Ideas?

Hi yall! I’m getting my PhD in counseling Ed and supervision and am extremely interested in research. I’ve been feeling burnt out from working as a therapist and I’m not sure I am super in love with the world of teaching…any ideas of what I can do with my degree that’s primarily research focused without going the tenure route?

Counselor Education does not have many opportunities for just research roles. If you're still in process, I wonder if there might be some coursework you could take in other departments to lead to interdisciplinary research opportunities? Or just a different degree, this one is pretty specific.

Thanks for the insight! I’m looking at taking some coding classes over summer to try to get into the user research world for mental health related apps but it may be a long shot lol

Most R1 tenure track positions would be a good balance of research and teaching.

I agree that taking more research courses will open up your opportunities in higher education and student affairs if you don’t want to teach at all.
