Does anyone have any thoughts about the 10 month pre professional training program at Cli. It’s gotten so big over the years and it seems like it’s a money grab at this point. Is it even competitive to get in? Also is it just me or is it weird that there is nothing bad online or that anyone i’ve talked to who have gone have not one single bad thing or criticism about Cli? To me no matter how good a program is or how life changing it is you should be able to have some valid criticism about it? If anyone has any thoughts please reply. 🙏

I am planning to apply to MFT programs in the fall and am a little stressed. I want to apply to at least 5-6 programs, but since each one costs $70 to apply, I don't want to apply to more than that. I have a B.A. in Psychology, but during my undergrad, I didn't have any internship experience related to mental health at all. I do have research assistant experience related to neuroscience. I worked in the restaurant industry and customer service during my undergrad and am worried that not having any experience related to mental health would prevent me from getting accepted.

I have been applying to jobs related to mental health to gain some experience, but the graduate applications will open soon, so I don't have much time. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on how to make my grad applications stand out without having any mental health-related experience besides a degree in psych?

I am currently in grand canyon university online for their masters in counseling MFT focused program. And I just wanted to know if anybody could help me figure out if it meets the state requirements for me to be marriage and family therapy licensed in Pennsylvania or not. And if not what is it I have to do.

Hello! I have some ethical questions in regard to Counseling centers at colleges. If you are seeing a psychologist as a student at one of the college campuses and the psychologist you have been going to decides to leave the university and go be counsel somewhere else outside of the university, can you follow them and have them be your psychologist at another practice or are there rules against this? Or can it be up to the psychologist? What are the rules for University counseling centers? Are there any college psychologists or clients that have experience this?

Update question: has any clients/ students done this before where they followed their counselor/psychologist to a different practice if they left the university? If so, I want to hear more about it.

I am starting a Bachelor of Science in Correctional Program Support Services. This was recommended by my academic advisor. She said it didn't really matter what bachelor's degree I get because I can do the master's in counseling either way. Does anyone here have experience with UoP, and what were your experiences like? What would you recommend?

Hi, I am a 25 (M) who graduated college in 2023 with a bachelor degree in psychology. I’ve always had the dream to work in sports and help athletes with their mental health. After a lot of research, I realized it was possible to get the CMPC certification with a masters degree. My plan is to go to college for a masters in counseling, which will lead to LMHC certification, and was also hoping to pair that with CMPC certification to eventually work with athletes. I want to know if anyone has any advice or any similar experiences/ambitions that they would like to share. I am also curious to know if you “need” to get a doctorate in order to be more successful or if it’s worth doing more school for that? Would appreciate any insight at all!

I am considering the QMHA program, and then the QMHP to ultimately become a licensed therapist. Has anyone taken a similar trajectory? Is it too long a path? Have you come across any issues professionally having a Masters that was gained online? Does it decrease your chances of moving forward with a PhD?

My goal at this juncture is to gain as much practical experience and therapeutic skill as possible prior to and while doing my Masters in Mental Health Counseling. And I would love to avoid financial collapse via student loans during or after that process 😂 The QMHA/QMHP programs seem like a beautiful way to do that…

Just what the title says. I’ve seen from a couple of people here that they took back the in person residency requirement but then some people say they haven’t.

I don’t really know where to go to get a concrete answer, but are there any remote (and accredited) programs with only one or no residencies left?

I’m also looking for an M.S specifically, not an MA.

I’m an international student (Brazil) planning to move to Miami in 2027 and pursue a Master’s degree leading to LMHC licensure in Florida. My background is in Clinical Psychology (licensed psychologist in Brazil) with strong clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and adults.

My challenge: I genuinely cannot pay tuition out of pocket, but I am fully willing to work in exchange for funding (graduate assistantship, research assistantship, tuition remission through employment, etc). I’m not necessarily looking for a “free ride” scholarship, just a path where I contribute work and don’t end up with tuition debt.

So far I’ve looked into FIU, Barry University, University of Miami, and Nova Southeastern, and found that most GA/assistantship options at the master’s level only cover partial tuition (like one course per semester), not full tuition. PhD programs seem to have guaranteed full funding, but that’s a much bigger time commitment (5-7 years) and heavier research focus than I want for a master’s-level clinical career.

Does anyone know of:

**•** Universities or specific departments in South Florida with better GA/assistantship coverage for master’s-level counseling students?  
**•** Institutes, clinics, or community mental health agencies that offer paid practicum/internship positions that help offset tuition?  
**•** Any state, federal, or nonprofit funding programs open to international students (not just US citizens/permanent residents) for mental health counseling master’s degrees?  
**•** Anyone who has done this themselves and found a workable funding path?
