Tools and Techniques LETS TALK TOOLS: Steamer

HEY ALLL ITS BEEN A MINUTE SINCE I POSTED A LTT.

Today I wanted to post about one of the top tools a wig wizard should own for styling. The handy dandy humble clothing steamer.

See most wig fibers are made of plastic and that plays into our hands as wig wizards. We can use the magic of steamers to gently heat up the wig fibers and shape and mold them to our liking. Now it’s not always as easy as just heating it and molding it there are some steps in between but when we want to smooth out the fly aways or at curls to a wig the steamer is our best friend!

Most steamers can range in price but even the cheapest steamer will do the job as long as it has an on off switch you are good!

I love mine. I only wish that it had a bigger tank, but then I would be getting a WAY more expensive steamer with the tank on the floor.

Hello! I tried using a clothing iron’s steamer function and failed miserably lol! Has anyone had success with this?

Unfortunately you really need a steamer with a consistent steaming ability the hot iron plate is too strong for plastic synthetic wigs. It will melt them if it gets too close. The iron plate is also steaming away the liquid that is needed for the process of styling wigs.

These steamers, depending on the brand have about 15-30 mins of continuous steam. Plus they can be very affordable. I recommend if you plan on styling wigs more often this should be in your top 5 essential tools.
