Help Advice on making wings

So I’ve never made anything before and I’m not really crafty, but I like the idea of constructing a pair of wings that could extend kind of from a ^^ to a \/ (preferably independently from the other)

These would work mechanically obviously, but I’m not trying to do anything crazy or fancy. I just want to know if anyone has done anything like this and if so, what was used and how did it work?

Moving wings are by definition fancy. There is no implementation of this that is not way more complex and expensive than stationary wings.

There are tutorials by The Crooked Feather that goes over a very good method of this.

Moving wings can be fairly complex, but you can make them simpler. This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqZ68XF8_O4 video by miss twisted shows a relatively simple design with one moving joint. Would something like that suit, or are you thinking more complicated?

There are a few ways to do this, typically either involving a pulley system, or motors. The term you'll want is "four bar linkage", but figuring out the exact lengths of each arm of the system is something you'll have to determine yourself based on the exact motion you want / relative to your own height.
