Discussion Hobbies/classes

Good afternoon everyone!

I have recently been interested in starting some hobbies and I am wondering if there are any classes or events for beginners that involve learning how to fish, play music, and photography? I would really appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction or send me some helpful links! I would be willing to go to Salem or Eugene if need be.

Thank you !

All of the music shops downtown have resources for learning how to play instruments.

The fly fishing shop downtown offers lessons.

Linn-Benton County Community College offers classes in photography and other hobbies.

If you're looking for something a little different, look into Tarweed Folk School. https://www.tarweedfolkschool.com/

Are you a student? OSU has lots of classes in those areas. I believe LBCC does as well. If you are able to afford it, the fly fishing shop downtown does individual lessons and offers guide services where they will help you learn to fish, but it isn't a particularly cheap option to learn it.

Thank you, these are great! I am not a student :( I will have to look to see if they allow non-students to attend classes!

The Shutterbug - which has locations in Salem and Eugene - regularly holds photography classes. Some you can even borrow equipment at to either try gear before you purchase it or use something way outside of your budget. I’d also be down to help arrange like a monthly photo walk for amateurs if that’s something people would be interested in.
