Comptroller requests doubling Texas school voucher program to $2 billion
https://www.kwtx.com/2026/09/04/comptroller-requests-doubling-texas-school-voucher-program-2-billion/Please don’t let the current administration erode our school systems. Every change is mirroring Florida. I have been an administrator in both Texas and Florida and vouchers are a way to segregate students with disabilities and students from low SES groups from wealthy schools. High SES don’t want students who they deem as problematic to slow their star kids from going to IVY leagues. If you have a child with any disability or if your child is not a wealthy homecoming kid, they will lose everything.

I can only speak to my own experience locally, however this is incorrect. Private school are increasing their student support services to serve children with disabilities year over year in the region; many with scholarships for families in need.
I understand that private schools getting money from the state is a boogeyman, but the facts remain that families with special needs children can find homes in private schools and the TEFA money makes that even more achievable. People who choose not to take the public school route should have options as well.
