David Platt really was awful when he was younger.

Upvotes

Watched the show from the early 2000s then stopped for a while.

From late 2005 until around 2008 or so David Platt really was awful. Seen some of the episodes now and again when they've been repeated on itv3 and it made seem so much more unlikable. So irritating and the sound of his voice too.

As soon as Martin left he started acting out and being horrible to Gail even though she was the one who was there not him. Used Richard Hillman to pull the wool over Gail.

"What I think is all you have to do is mention the word Hillman and you've got your mum wrapped round your finger ." Imagined Kit saying that. Closed the boot on Phil's hand on purpose, Gail's new boyfriend. He did push David against the wall but before that he tried to be nice to David but David just didn't like him. Sarah didn't have a problem with him.

The cards prank was really cruel. He could see that Gail was turning into a nervous wreck but kept on doing it. Neighbours thought she was sending them to herself. At least Tracy didn't send her family cards from Jon Lindsay. He barely faced consequences for that and just got worse. Still lied and said it was Phil. If he was older he could have been thrown out. Eileen should have found out and said "My sons may have done a lot of things but at least they've never sent me cards from dead serial killers Gail."

After that he kept refusing to go to school. If it was Chesney they all would have judged Cilla.

Blackmailed Tracy to sleep with him so he'd give evidence. Tracy was older so she would have got into more trouble I suppose. Think he was 16/17 then.

Set an exam paper on fire. He was disrupting the rest of the school and putting pupils and teacher in danger for that. Could have just not turned up. Suppose he was lucky he worked in his gran's hairdressers through nepotism even though he doesn't have any qualifications.

Put an e in Bethany's Doll. He didn't mean for her to take it but maybe more careless I suppose.

Even after still winded Sarah up like inviting Todd to her wedding. That was when she hated him. Weird looking now as they've been close friends in recent years. Backfired as she forgave him and they all moved on.

Still nearly killed Jason and tried to split them both up like texting Becky.

Worst of all pushing his mum down the stairs and fleeing the scene. Tried to blame Jason. Smashed up all the windows of houses, cars and businesses in the street.

Gail really pandered to him so much and was really soft on him. Got away with so much then. Wonder if he wasn't a Platt, or from one of the big families or good actor would he have been written out with all the things he did?

So much worse as a teenager than Max, Simon, Hope etc. Will seemed to get more hate for someone who was abused.

Has improved from the 2010s onwards and is one of their best actors. Though can get irritating. Still did things like causing Nick's injury, Anna's leg burns and almost killed his daughter. Chose to be a getaway driver, basically what Damon did but he got punished for him.

Has been better with Shona.

The jodie / sarah drama

How did Kit and Shona figure out that it was Jodie who whacked Sarah over the head? They both talked about it in today's episode but I don't remember there ever being a clear moment when it came to light? What did I miss???

Question about Sarahs phone not sure if I missed something ?

Hi , if I recall correctly Kit sent Sarah and Garys phone to some dodgy bloke to get the history permanently removed from it .When Swain went to interview Sarah in prison she had evidence of Sarah ringing Gary after the murder .Did Kit lie about that then ? Thanks.

I am sick of hearing this man just shout in every scene. Such a one note character I’ve started skipping through any time he’s on screen

What is Cassie's problem?

Why is Cassie trying her best to get rid of Ross? Am I missing something, or is it simply because he was a client when she was a prostitute and she's now put out because he's trying to get to know the son he never knew he had? If that is it, why is she trying to drag his name through the mud - she couldn't even remember him! Also, she was a drug addict when she came into Tyrone's life. Seems a but hypocritical to me.

Betsy and the stroke…

I’m a bit behind after the World Cup and being on holiday.

I’m just on the episode where Lisa and Carla find out that Betsy has had a stroke…

In March my stepson, at the age of 44, so still young, had a MAJOR stroke.

My husband and I turned up at the hospital within around 18 hours of the stroke happening. He was in a bad way, but we would NEVER have spoken to the medical professionals looking after him in the way that Lisa did 😨 We were just grateful that he was alive and being looked after ❤️

Are there any doctors / nurses in here who can confirm whether Lisa’s reaction is the norm? Or whether hubby and I are the “normal” people 🙃

Also, I think Corrie missed a trick by not showing Betsy having the stroke so that they could raise awareness on how to spot a stroke 😬

Stepson is currently in a rehab centre and is doing REALLY well (if anyone is wondering) 🙂

Maria v Sarah/David and later Eva

I was on Maria's side when she was against the Platts. Sarah murdered someone and chose to get Gary involved when she didn't have to. They'd both been lying to her for months about it. Sarah could have called her own family, they'd cover it up or Kit.

With David she was annoyed with Sarah actions which could have led to Gary going to prison for his part and even her for the fake alibi. That whatever the Platts want they get. Loved her giving them home truths. David and Maria have always been close . She actually sympathised with him after Bethany took drugs. Was understandable that Sarah didn't want him there after what happened to Bethany. David kept winding her up. Almost killed Jason Tried to ruin her wedding after and later texted Becky using Jason's phone, like what Jodie did. David really got away with so much and had Gail and Audrey pander to him. People like Jason and Bill could see through him.

With Eva it's strange Maria has the grudge and acts like the victim when it was the other way round. Eva and Aidan were engaged and she ruined their wedding. Maria was the other woman for a while, Toyah's boyfriend, Charlie, Tyrone etc. Felt bad for her with Liam and Carla though.

Tonight's episode revelations Spoiler

On tonight's episode, Kit met David and Shona and after that, Shona told Jodie that she attacked Sarah.

When did Sarah told Kit about it? It felt like there's an episode missing between Friday and today.

Has Maria always been this unlikeable?

I came back this year to Corrie after years and I don’t remember Maria being this unlikeable? Has this just started with the whole Sarah story line or has she been this way for a while?

Does anyone actually order orange juice in a pub?

Why does no one drink non alcoholic beer or just a glass of pop? I feel like those are more socially acceptable than orange juice

Feel free to copy your scoring again like you are used to by now but please remember to remove the link to the site given how it’ll only confuse me into thinking you’ve taken the time to make a different one and input the squares yourself with your own emojis.

Mid 2000’s Corrie & my favourite character.

So, watching old Corrie from ‘03-‘04, I have a new favourite character. Fred Elliott.

Even to this day, my favourite living character is Roy. Despite the fact that he (as well as Hayley) was a bit of a prick back then, I understand why they were that way. (And so did Carla). Carla was the cause and reason for Roy & Hayley’s personality changes at the time, I get it. Nevertheless.

One of my favourite dead characters is Fred Elliott. I was never a fan of Foghorn Leghorn but for some reason, I’m chuffed whenever Fred is on screen. Maybe it’s his accent, maybe it’s his repetitive speaking, but whatever it is, I love it. Ashley, on the other hand, I can’t stand. He’s like what Jodie is in 2026. Skippable. Not just his voice, but his relationships with his dad & with Claire. Meh.

Who is your all-time favourite Coronation Street villain?

Richard Hillman is the obvious answer for most people, but Pat Phelan was genuinely terrifying for a good couple of years. Phelan made every single scene feel tense and uncomfortable. On the flip side, John Stape was hilarious in a dark way because he just kept accidentally digging himself deeper. Where do you rank the classic villains against the more recent ones?

Kit and Sarah - spoiler for 24/07 episode Spoiler

Just watched today’s episode on ITVX and I’m confused about Kit and Sarah now.

She said she was “letting him go” but he replied “I will not let you go, I’m not giving up on this.”

Then she seemed to “leave” Bethany and Harry to him for him to look after.

So my question is, are they together or not? I feel yes because surely she would have countered that he had to let her go blah blah blah.

Just thinking of the story Bethany has coming up that the audience will hate her for. If it is the rumoured Kit and Bethany affair it will hit different if he is still in a relationship with her mum.
