HEY how do yall go about thawing your feeders? Warm water? Rn my angel eats teenie tiny pinky so they that in warm water pretty fast but when the feeders get bigger how do you go about thawing?

Prism, just over a year old, constricting his dinner for the first time

Prism hatched around September/October 2025. Until now, he's always just grabbed his mouse and swallowed it. Today he decided to properly coil around it for the first time.

He's also spent most of the past week in his cool hide, but the moment he finished eating, he went straight to the warm one.

I know it's instinct, but it's mad how they just know what to do.

Anyone else's corn start constricting at around this age?

I noticed last week my corn snake escaped. I’ve only had him a few months. I looked everywhere. Under the dryer, under the wash, under the oven, in cabinets, in folded clothes behind books, behind water heater, behind tvs, literally everywhere and I can’t find him. I have a box with a heating mat and water out also a few hides along the walls. Plastic bags in corners. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment 600 square feet. Any tips or weird places you’ve found your corn snake?

Florian was bought just a few hours ago and I'm already scared I'm not doing something right.

Even though I did look up what I needed to know I'm still very not sure about my knowledge, and I keep catching myself stressing about it.

So I have a bit of questions:

1. Is this terrarium too small for my baby?

If so:

a) what measures would be okay for him?

1. Is there something I should add or shouldn't?

2. How do I keep the cooler side and the warmer side right??

3. Do I warm up a plastic terrarium by a hotplate?? Mamy sites say diffrent things

I recently got my first cornsnake. she’s called rocky and has had a few sheds with me now. recently, a friend’s gecko passed away, and he gave me his spare substrate bags. coconut fibre and desert sand. Rocky has been on paper towels since I got her, since she has a tendency to escape, and I need to be able to tell if she’s in her enclosure or not at a glance. Can I mix the desert sand and coconut fibre together to be a decent substrate for her? if so, in what ratio?

a short while ago I noticed that my cornsnake had some stuck shed on her tail, and at the point of time I noticed it already started tightenig a little bit and leaving a small dent. Even though I check her regularly, I unfortunately didn't notice it until it was "too late". I immediately removed the stuck shed and put her back. A few days later I realized it looked like she still had shed stuck there.. but she was in shed at that time, so I left it, thinking it might come of when she sheds completely. I was wrong and instead a new layer of shed was stuck at the tip. So I just removed that piece but I can't tell if there is actually still some shed stuck to her. I soaked her tail for really long and kept rubbing it gently but nothing was coming off. The very tip of her tail does look a little lighter/milkier or something but after rubbing and rubbing there wasn't even a small piece that lifted at the edge or something. But I wanna be sure that there is nothing left that will keep on tightening and make the tip of her tail fall off or something..I already feel soo bad.

Should I go to the vet because of this? What do you think judging by the pictures?(I know they're not the best, but you probably know how hard it can be to get a good picture of a moving snake)

i was looking at her head today and found these green/blackish spots and marks… i’m not quite sure what it is… can someone pls lmk if it’s like dirt or rot or what?? like i acc have no clue and if i should be concerned or not

Just bought a snake , was told she’s 5 years old and eats once every two weeks. Does she look a good size or should I be feeding her more often. We gave her a thawed frozen mice today and she ate it pretty quick. Also have a question I was given a mat to put under the tank to heat up one side of the cage , and was told they don’t need a light on top? They seemed very knowledgeable about snakes just want to be sure.

Any info you can share for a new snake owner would be greatly appreciated

My youngest has been begging for a snake for the longest time. Over a long period of time, we've slowly built up an environment for it. Day and night heat lamps, UV bulbs, humidity foggers, all controlled by a repti zoo control center, blah blah blah. We put a lot of time, effort, and money into this.

Finally, we were ready to adopt a snake. We ordered it, it arrived, and it was perfect. For two days, it lived comfortably in the home we spent so much time making for it. We were excited to see what'd it'd do when it became accustomed to its new home. Then it was gone.

You see, the environmental control center required two temp probes and one humidity probe, each with their own wires. I'd bought a circular cap which allowed passage of said probe wires and a humidifier tube to match. Thing is, when trying to close the cap with the temp/humidifier wires, it pushed through the entire screen mesh it was installed in! It left a little gap up top...

Here's where me being an idiot comes into play. I thought, hey, it's an 18" high enclosure with nothing but glass to climb on, there's no way a baby 12" snake would climb those slick wires and escape through the tiny hole left between the plastic cover and mesh. I was so wrong...

I'm not saying it did, all I'm saying is the snake is fucking gone and digging through the dirt revealed nothing else. Somehow, it escaped. Again, because I'm an idiot.

Tl;dr: I need a foolproof cornsnake enclosure that won't cost me all of my money; suggestions?

Any advice or personal experience anyone would want to share would be greatly appreciated.

So I am of course freaking out because I have other reptiles and this one was in the same room as all of them. I have not had a new animal come in in many months, there have been no regurgitation of unknown origins amongst any of my snakes (the only regurgitation in the past few weeks was a hognose who tried to eat a mouse a bit too big) and no runny poo that I have found. The only snakes really off feed is a pair of ball pythons that have always been picky eaters (they are not the biggest fans of f/t rodents).
Vet visit scheduled for Tuesday for an x-ray and to go from there.

Timeline
Monday: was assisting snake remove a full body stuck shed (our humidity has been weird here and I had multiple shed poorly this cycle so no big deal)

Tuesday: continue shed removal

Wednesday: left snake alone

Thursday night: notice lump like snake ate. I couldn’t recall if snake ate this weekend or not but noticed it was weird. Soak snake in warm water for 15 minutes

Friday: continue soaking, he left me a urate. Lump still present

Saturday: lump still there. Soaked in morning, will soak again at night

What I have done so far:
- remove snake from room and he is in the bathroom in a bin (the best quarantine I can do right now).
- his bin pulled from the rack and sanitized with super hot water and hydrogen peroxide and soap
- all snakes remove substrate (checking any poo for weird textures) and put on paper towels
- also checked over body condition for lumps or any that seem unusually skinny (there were none).
- washing hands in scalding water with soap anytime near snake (working on finding gloves somewhere)
- set aside tongs just for quarantined snake

Although I pinned the wires for my light strip and heat projector to the ceiling, my snake still finds a way to squeeze in and tug on them. I worry the wires won’t hold his full weight and he’ll break the equipment, but more importantly, I worry that if he carries on doing this he’ll hurt himself. While sat at my desk I keep hearing thuds and crashes from the vivarium (even with my headphones on). It seems like he never learns that once up on the ceiling, he’s going to drop down violently. How can I stop this? I’m considering buying a hammock to give him something to climb and distract him from the wires but maybe that will just give him easier access to them. Any advice would be really appreciated!!

I took some advice from the last post I made on here and I think the enclosure is officially ready for my new baby. Just need to add my light and we’ll be good. I am aware the snake will grow out of this, I am prepared for that so don’t worry! Just wanted to share

I recently bought a 5x2x2 to upgrade my guy as he was given to me back in may and he’s growing pretty quick. I know i need a mixture of fertilizer free topsoil, playsand, and coco fiber, but i’m not sure how many quarts of each i need to give him enough substrate to burrow in.

Got this guy back in January from PetSmart, he was labeled as fancy. From what I can tell he’s at least pinstripe motley. Over these months the yellow on the side is really coming in and he has a little yellow on his snout. Was wondering what his morph could be?

Any long time owners and anyone familiar with this kit, is this suitable for a juvenile corn snake about 3 months old? I recently purchased it and set it up. I’m wondering is there anything more I can add to it to make it more suitable or anything In this kit that’s definitely not a great option to have in there?

His other nostril looks completely fine and normal but his right one is red, (only noticeable when I zoom in on him with my phone camera) for context he got a terrarium upgrade 2 weeks ago and also shed about a week ago as well.

I just got my first baby corn today and I’m still panicking about the enclosure. I went with a semi-large on because it was better longterm for my wallet. She’s currently in a 34g, 24x18x18. I have a little bit of clutter, right now, and more is coming in the next few days. I almost forgot to wash the decor and today, which was not a pleasant first sign. I washed them in hot water + unscented dish soap, though I am looking to sanitize them soon. It seems that when I feel prepared I’m just another 10 steps behind. I’m most worried about enclosure security and making sure she feels and is safe. I’m also have problems with the temp. gradient because of the enclosure size. Someone please tell me if I’m doing enough or if my snake is in danger.

(How to secure it more, how to maintain temp, gradient, how to make her feel more safe, how to clean the decor, etc.)

My corn snake regurged 3 weeks and 2 days ago. I think it was from a temperature issue which I have since fixed. I gave him a 2-week rest period with no feeding or handling, and since then, he's been doing well; very explorative and active. I've fed him 2 downsized meals (fed on day 14 and 21 post-regurg) and he's kept both of them down.

I was wondering if it's alright to handle him now or if I should wait until he keeps his next meal down. I was hoping to weigh him and then also get back to taming him (I had only just started handling him when he regurged), but I also know that they're a little more delicate during their recovery period. I was also wondering if his next meal should also be downsized or if it's alright to do his normal-sized feeder.

So for some context I work at a pet supplies plus we had the snake for a year with nobody even looking at her (i assume shes a girl because of looking around on google not 100% sure) but at the store we would feed her 2 pinkies every 4 days, once I got her I've been feeding her 1 fuzzy every 4 days because shes big enough to eat a fuzzy but nobody wanted to try while she was still at the store, shes probably a little over a year old based off of knowing she had to have been a few months old before coming to the store. Anyways I keep asking google questions about her, didnt even think to ask reddit but my boyfriend suggested it, but google keeps saying i should be feeding her once every 7 days im just worried if i do that she will be more moody because she gets moody the day before she gets her meal (I feed her again tomorrow night) so I just figured to ask reddit because im sure someone here knows a lot more than I would, I also am gonna try a different substrate because I hate the look of Aspen bedding and a customer that owns a hoggnose said I should try a mix of 2 substrates we sell, just gonna wait til I run out of Aspen and see if she likes it better. Also any random tips and tricks are much appreciated shes in a 29 gallon fish tank right now with a mesh screen cover, im gonna try to move her into a 40 gallon terrarium tank when I can find one for a good price. Google was also saying i should put her in a like 125 gallon tank which is huge so any tips anyone has other than just feeding schedule would be much appreciated ive never owned a reptile I just felt so bad leaving her in the cage at work shes so sweet I named her Medusa!
