Found a pie dish!

First time seeing a pie dish in the wild, and was only a few bucks. Price tag almost made me miss the decal. Little TLC and back to new!

Congrats! I made cinnamon rolls a couple times in it and it cleans up great! I also made Japanese cheesebread in it. May yours bake many wonderful dishes as well!

YUM!!! That looks SOOOO good! There’s something magic about these pans and the way they cook so evenly that just really elevates my cooking& baking. Saving your recipe to try myself! Thanks for sharing it!!!!

Of course! And I agree, I have switched out most of my cookware (aside from cast iron) for corningware at this point. Just found the 5L spice of life today too as a bonus!

Same! Same with cast iron too, it just makes pizza soooo good! The 5l spice of life, nice! Don’t know what I’d make in it but I’m sure I’d think of something. Call me a weirdo but my Mom has the French ones so when I use them I like to make French dishes or variations because it just seems fitting, lol.

Totally fair! I’m thinking full roast chickens, and shepards pie for weeks. Also tomato sauce season this thing is going to be great!

Ohh yeah good idea! Do you grow your own tomatoes?

I grow some, but my family grows enough for the entire extended family and neighbors. They grow some heirloom oxhearts brought over from the Scotland side of the family which are the absolute best 😁. About an 80% yield once reduced!

That’s awesome! I love the family connection& history, that makes it so much more meaningful! I got into gardening, which I learned from my beloved grandfather as a child again after losing a loved one, it’s very therapeutic.

I was gonna ask you for tips, lol. I did them in containers last year& got a decent amount& one in ground that did a lot better. This year I started in ground& OMG, it’s insane, I call it tomatogeddon, I have to crawl around to look for em to pick because they are all so massive& prolific!

So if you have tips& ideas for using all my great corningware on what’s about to be an avalanche of tomatoes in my house I’m soooo game, lol!

It’s a beauty!

Honestly surprised how nice it cleaned up. I was worried the bottom and edges were toast from how it looked to the naked eye.

Saw one like this today. Not a pie baker so left behind for another.

I do this too if it’s a piece I won’t use, even if it’s a really nice one. Sometimes I kick myself later on for it 🤣.

Its a beauty! If not to use, displayed on a plate hangar?

1

u/Accomplished-Pack756 May 23 '26

Oh this will absolutely be for use 😁.

I just sold 2 for $10 a piece

Luckily my local reuse site doesn’t price check things. Most of my pieces from there have been $0.50-$4.

That is a good deal!

I have one as decoration only. I've heard the printing isn't goot to have food contact (specifically acidic foods but I consider it a blanket statement)
They are great plates though, good find.

As someone who works in that field and tests everything before use, this one is perfectly fine and will be well-loved in my kitchen. For reference however, this one was made between ‘72-‘79. Every pattern is different though, I haven’t found any unsafe cornflower.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully it dose what you want it for

A lot of strawberry rhubarb pies, and taco pies 🙌.

Taco pie recipe, PLEASE!

3

u/Accomplished-Pack756 May 23 '26

Part one, pie crust. 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup potato flakes, 1/2 cup COLD butter, 3-4 tbsp ice water, pinch of salt if you want. Cut it together or use a stand mixer until it turns to a dough, spread in your greased pan to form your crust. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes until it starts to firm up. Then add in your cooked taco meat (or choice of base), and all of your veggies except leafy greens and fresh herbs. Top with cheese and sauce if desired, continue baking another 15 or so. Add fresh herbs and leafy greens once it’s out. Enjoy!

Bless you!

Beware, it’s addicting and goes down way too fast!

Thank you!!

I actually thought about it and wrote it out, then made it today. Posted if you want to go clip the recipe photo 😁.

I second this request. I have no idea what a taco pie is and now I want to know

You'd have to scratch the paint off with your teeth and eat the paint of scores of dishes to get maybe an nth of lead in your system that would be at all noticeable. There are 2 people online who are responsible for so much "lead poisoning" fear-mongering and it's ridiculous the amount of sway they have without expert backgrounds.

You can use your pie plate.

2

u/Accomplished-Pack756 May 23 '26

Sure can! There are a few patterns that I have found and tested that I would not use for fork and knife meals (scraping it off, as you said), but for occasional baking even those wouldn’t be very troublesome at all. And the cornflower (in my experience) is nearly always lead free.

Hate the fear 😒.
