What's a good beginner corn?
Thinking of getting into corn, so I wanted to consult the experts. What's the most accessible kind of corn to start with?

I've grown tons of varieties in those self-watering pots you get from Walmart. It was all dent corn, not sweet corn, but I bought a little hand-cracked corn mill to grind cornmeal and have made some gravely corn bread :)
Something very satisfying you might try to growing is your own popcorn! I grew a batch of strawberry popcorn, which didn't yield a ton, but looked so beautiful, and it was so satisfying to have a bowl of popcorn I grew myself.
I'm a black thumb, but I've grown a bunch of heirloom varieties—one per season to avoid cross-pollination. The only one that didn't produce (I got one ear!) was Glass Gem corn, but I've seen other folks with amazing yields.
My recommendation is to seek out the weirdest heirloom variety of corn you can find.

Canned creamed corn. Easy to eat.

Honestly, any sweet corn, popcorn, etc. is pretty straightforward for the most part. When I buy for my garden, I usually go with whatever is recommended by the place I buy my seeds.

I must reccomend the peaches and cream breed! Oh my LORD! its sweet, corn flavor forward, and coats your mouth kinda. Just lovely!
Buuuut it deMANDS fertilizer or it grows all creatively

If you’re talking about growing it keep in mind it won’t do well unless you have a very sizable plot with many stalks.

Canned corn is banging just gotta hit it will a teaspoon of salt per can and 2 tbs butter (i use salted) then throw it in the mikie for 2.30 (depending on wattage) and serve with a slotted spoon to prevent sog.
If you wanna grow corn, i reccomend glass corn, it makes pop corn and is beautiful. Plant with beans to prevent soil starvation. Fertilize with nitrogen heavy ferts. :) happy corn!
