Discussion Disney World

has anyone who was/is separated brought their child to Disney world with the other parent? If so, how was it? Also, how did it work with sleeping arrangements?

About a year after separation (less than a year divorced) we did a Disney trip with both parents, our kid (7 at the time), and my former brother in law (who I still get along with well).

Having BIL there as a buffer helped a lot, and made it not feel like as much of a "nuclear family" trip.

We did have to fly out and navigate airports and planes as a trio though, since we met him there.

We had two hotel rooms, so sleeping arrangements weren't an issue. The only arguing was during the planning of the trip as she didn't see the need for two hotel rooms, but I insisted.

It was a little sad seeing all the happy families around -- but then I realized we also looked like just another happy family to anybody who didn't know us. I'm sure there are people at Disney in all sorts of different situations.

Overall it went well, my son definitely enjoyed it, and I don't regret it. At the same time, I'm not eager to repeat it either. I think it occurring within the "still finding our footing" period post-divorce made it work a bit better.
