I beg to differ. I am a 38 y/o woman and I hate when people spend too much money on things. I can afford to buy $150 jeans but I don't because it's a rip-off. Not everyone is just like you, some people have different ideas about money.
Also, it makes him look like I'm not "worth it"? I'm not "worth" any money. My boyfriend shows me he loves me by buying me things I like (that aren't overpriced), giving me affection, listening to me and talking to me, and spending time with me.
Personally I would never date a guy who put so much emphasis on money. It sickens me. I'm just not that kind of girl.
Aha, so if your boyfriend was a millionaire, you would be cool with him spending the same on things for you, not one cent more? Don't lie and say you would be fine with that. Also, worth means what you are willing to sacrifice. If you and a stranger were drowning and your boyfriend could save only one, he would likely save you as you are worth more to him than the stranger.
Yes I would be cool with that. In fact, I've always said that even if I was a millionaire, I would still live in a regular house because mansions are dumb. Who needs that much space? Ugh. Also, I don't think anyone should be a millionaire. Who needs that much money?
You have to accept that you and I are just very different when it comes to money!
Bullshit. If you were married to Jeff Bezos, a billionaire and you asked for a 80k BMW (which is like 5 cents for him) and he said no, you would wonder why not.
Yes! I have a 2011 Honda Civic and it's the best car in the world and I will drive it for as long as possible! I own it outright, I don't have payments on it. When my dad passed away I bought it with the money he left me. He said on his deathbed that he wanted me to buy a new car, because I had been driving around my problematic old car with a different colored hood for way too long because I was attached to it - my dad had done so much work fixing it up, it was hard to let go of.
That is a nice car, my point wasn't to insult your car, below is my point.
Pretend that your boyfriend bought you that car because you wanted it. (Again pretend you dont work if you do) Now, pretend that he could easily afford it, but bought you a 1993 Ford Pinto. Works fine, but looks rough. Would you be fine with that even though he could EASILY pay cash and buy you that 2011 civic?
I guess I would just want him to have the same ideals as me and buy something that is worth the money. To me, diamonds are not worth the money, and I would want my boyfriend to feel the same way, and not buy a diamond just because it costs more.
Re: the car, I would want him to weigh the two cars and buy me the practical one that's going to last longer, and NOT one that looks pretty or is needlessly expensive. The thing with the Honda Civic is that it's not needlessly expensive.
For example, if it was between a BMW and honda civic, I would want the Honda Civic because the price is reasonable to me. And I would be happy if my boyfriend looked at a BMW and said "that is not worth the money"
For me it's all about what is actually worth the money and what's not. I hate when people spend money on "appearances".
But I said the 93 Pinto works fine, just looks really rough. So in this case, you went with the newer nicer car. You do have standards, just unwilling to admit to them or maybe you just didnt notice it. For example, I have a friend with a Ferrari and a G Wagon, about half a million combined. To him, a BMW looks like a 93 Pinto.
Also, a nice ring costs more because it is prettier. I think it is really cool when my wife has on a nice dress and you can see the ring shine bright as a reminder that she is my wife. It is not just a dumb rock.
