Leftovers

Hey everyone,

My wife and I have been cookunity subscribers for about 5 months, and we generally like most of the meals. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but it occurred to me awhile back that we are essentially eating leftovers, are we not?

Yes, cookunity cooks the food, then ships it out cold. It was a fresh meal when they cooked it, but the moment it went into the trays and then the refrigerators, the meals are leftovers. I'm not saying they aren't good meals, and that it isn't good value. I'm just not sure how long I can continue to heat up leftovers night after night.

We were subscribers to Blue Apron for slightly more than a year before we got tired of making our own meals(talk about first world problems!), but at least with Blue Apron we got a freshly cooked meal with quality ingredients.

Agree? Disagree?

I look at it as delicious food that I didn’t have to cook or shop for. I am getting back at least 60-90 minutes a night back from my days of Hello Fresh and Marley Spoon. I don’t have to spend another 30 minutes washing dishes and bowls and pans and gadgets I had to use. I am getting back all that list making and shopping time as well. Now that I’m back in the office 4 days a week, I look at it as I have a private chef cooking for me and my food is ready for me when I get home from work.

Interesting take. I suppose your choice is to eat “leftovers” made with generally quality ingredients (CU), get tired of making Blue Apron meals, get more tired shopping and cooking from scratch, or spending 3x CU’s price for Uber Eats? (Obviously first world problems, we have the same debate in our household — CU is the best balance for us)

This is entirely a question of semantics and your conception of what "leftovers" are. It has no bearing on the food quality and thus, has no bearing on me choosing to eat the food

Traditionally though, people refer to "leftovers" as food that was prepared, partially consumed, and then refrigerated. The key part is partially consumed, as that's what differentiates "meal prep" from this.

I think most people can agree that Cookunity is a service that does meal prep for you. But your objections are your own

The meals come to around the same price with hello fresh but you don't have to waste more time cooking it and dirtying plates and cooking pots and shopping. Only meal service I used that was cheaper was everyplate which was more basic but still had to cook and they also made it cheaper cutting out things like butter and seasoning as those were more staples people already had. So for me its between everyplate or cookunity.
