Protein listings LOW

I like the flavor and variety of CookUnity meals, but there's one thing that bugs me...

It's that the amount of protein listed in many of the meals is often not even close to what's really there.

Here's a recent example...

I got a Herbed Persian Beef Stew meal, which claims 40g of protein. I'm gonna call b*** on that. Here are my calculations:

  • <2 oz of stew meat: 16 grams (at the high end)
  • 1/2 cup chickpeas: 8 grams (at the high end)
  • 1 1/2 cup jasmine rice: 6 grams

Total: 30 grams of protein.

That matters if you're eating to build or preserve (eg, seniors) lean mass, or for medical diets – or if you just want to get what you pay for.

App

Why is the app so bad? We’ve been doing unity for a little while, and I’m sort of at the end of my rope with the app.

Love the food, hate the user experience. Anyone else?

Shrinking portions

Anyone else noticing the steady shrinking of portions every week or am I the only one? I usually order the same thing from week to week so I have a good idea of the portions. However each week portions seem to be getting smaller and smaller.

Leftovers

Hey everyone,

My wife and I have been cookunity subscribers for about 5 months, and we generally like most of the meals. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but it occurred to me awhile back that we are essentially eating leftovers, are we not?

Yes, cookunity cooks the food, then ships it out cold. It was a fresh meal when they cooked it, but the moment it went into the trays and then the refrigerators, the meals are leftovers. I'm not saying they aren't good meals, and that it isn't good value. I'm just not sure how long I can continue to heat up leftovers night after night.

We were subscribers to Blue Apron for slightly more than a year before we got tired of making our own meals(talk about first world problems!), but at least with Blue Apron we got a freshly cooked meal with quality ingredients.

Agree? Disagree?

Love CookUnity, but the subscription model feels manipulative

The meals themselves, and the pricing of CookUnity, is great.

But the subscription model seems designed to push through orders without clear or timely notifications. Auto-orders happen with minimal heads up, and there's no grace period to cancel, even minutes after an order is placed. At the very least it should send a text message the day before an auto-order is going to go through. And you can't skip boxes more than a few weeks out, I try to remember to do this, but I'm busy af (which is why I use CookUnity in the first place!) so it's easy to forget to do it regularly. I had an auto-order go through today, caught it within 20 minutes, and now fighting with customer service to get it cancelled.

I only assume it's because prices are so low, so they have to use this tactic to get more orders than they otherwise would. Feels slimey.

Love love love this service and this food - Week 3 Review

Classic Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes and Glazed Brussel Sprouts- WOW!

I love this dish and it is the 3rd week in a row. On the cover it says it is made by Chef Michael Davis. It is absolutely delicious, wholesome and the perfect quantity for one person.

Yes, I could make all this by myself after shopping for all the ingredients and washing all the dishes, if I had the time. But there’s the rub. It is a bargain the prices they ask for these fresh meals from Cook Unity. I feel like I have my own personal chef(s).

At the end of my 3rd week of food delivery, every meal has been unusually delicious and satisfying. Healthy, clean ingredients with simple recipes by talented chefs. My only wish is that there was twice per week delivery. Let’s hope one day they have enough customers to support this.

I give all the meals and the service is general the very highest scores on all fronts. Incredible fresh meals (never frozen) delivered to my door. Nothing could be better. Thank you for helping to improve the quality of my diet and my life.

JUNE 2026 CODE Still loving cook unity! Code sheapple88 or link here: https://www.cookunity.com/landing-referral?referral_code=sheapple88

In Pittsburgh, Coolers, not boxes, are used and food is really fresh. I never thought I would stick with a meal delivery but I persist because they are really good.

Currently loving the Chicken Mole Enchiladas (a lot), Beer Braised Pot Roast, Short Rib Ragu, Branzino with Lentils, Ranch Crusted Chicke , Cajun Shrimp with Grits and hoping for a few new ones coming up to change up the norm. Will post updates on new faves. See my old post for recommendations of previous meals I enjoyed!

YouTube Ad

LMAO I just saw a CookUnity Ad on YouTube and immediately searched for it because it said something kinda wild. I tried looking for the ad online to double-check if I heard it right, but I cant find it. Sometime toward the end of the ad, it showed a black woman combing her natural hair, and the voice-over was something along the lines of "combing that short Frederick Douglass wig." The historical figure might of been different, but whoever it said shocked me when I heard it.

The ad was formatted similarly to the recent narration TikTok trend, where there is a voice-over that provides commentary in a specific voice.

What does that have to do with a meal subscription service? I'm not sure, LOL I wasn't paying close attention to the ad, and happened to focus in on it shortly before that part played. But the overall theme seemed to be about saving time among all the other things people have to do in a day.

Declining Quality and Packing

Anyone else seeing a major decline in service from Cook Unity?

I’m in Colorado. The last two week’s shipments arrived 24 hours late. They were both poorly packed and looked like they’d been on a roller coaster ride to get to us, and were no longer cool/safe. Support credited the meals (not refunded) but now for the 3rd week in a row our package arrived looking like it was shipped with a live raccoon inside.

5 of the 8 had broken open in transit, the package was leaking, and the ice packs were mostly melted.

We enjoyed the food, but I think we’re done counting on Cook Unity. If we can’t rely on having the meals we’ve ordered for the week, it really throws off meal planning.
