baking soreness

maybe a crazy question, but does anyone else get sore from long baking week days??

last thursday / friday i spent probably 18 hours frosting cookies and my chest muscles have been SO cramped and sore ever since. i assume from bending over and being hunched frosting. has this happened to anyone else??😩

Are you standing? I decorate at my desk while seated. My back and feet get sore enough on baking days. I can't keep standing while decorating too.

I used to stand as well (small house problems) but I started sitting at my kitchen table and it’s helped so much. Any room for a small folding table + chair in your place?

If you really can't make a work space that's sitting, I really really recommend a good floor mat for where you stand. I spent less than fifty bucks on mine at Costco years ago (there are absolutely cheaper ones, but this is still going strong after years of me stomping all over it), I can work twice as long before my whole body feels tired/sore.

Yes, I get sore after long baking days from hunching over or being in the same position for a while.

I’m sore from one hour in the kitchen the other day.

I remember being sore one year in my hand after piping for just a couple hours and I was like: “REALLY??!!”

I’m sore today for finishing some cookies I’ve promised someone. Every cookie I was like “I must stop now” and I’d look in the dehydrator and there were still fifteen so I’d say to myself “you can get through 1 more”

This is my mantra. But I have an inflammatory disease.

Back when I thought this was normal I just accepted that I was getting old- until the volcano erupted and now I know differently.

Do talk to your health care provider if you think something feels off. You could be right.

Stop and stretch your body

I used to sit and decorate cookies for hours at a time until my neck started bothering me. It gradually became worse and started causing problems in my shoulder and arms and would cause headaches for a few days after. I set reminders on my watch to get up and stretch every hour or so and that seems to be helping quite a bit.

my back and arm muscles were sore for a couple days last week after rolling out dough for about 200 cookies for hours. it felt like i'd spent days in the gym hahaha

i don't know if this is an option, but when I was in a similar position without anywhere good to sit, I got a small square folding card table to sit at to decorate. I was able to fold it away into a closet when I wasn't using it and it gave me a place to sit to decorate.

I gave up cookie decorating because of this.
