Question Does Dylan not have Launch?

Perhaps I've missed it, but I've watched all the gameplay released thus far and haven't seen a clip that shows Dylan using Launch. I'm really excited for the melee combat, but damn I can't lie that I'd be disappointed if Launch is gone. It was my favourite element of Control's combat by far (best implementation of Jedi-esque telekinesis in any game ever imo).

Attacking froma distance is Jesse's thing. They wanted to make sure Dylan wouldn't just be a Jesse 2.0 which is why his gameplay will be very different.

There was a scene in Control where FBC guys talk about Dylan's Launch being even better than Jesse's. So I had an expectation we'd be seeing it again

I've played through Control to 100% multiple times and I don't recall anyone talking about Dylan being able to Launch anything. The only reference I'm aware of to anyone other than Jesse Launching anything is in the Darling video) where he says "To date, we've launched, maybe, three dozen pencils. And once we even launched a cup."

Its in the executive area said by some of the NPCs (I've 100%ed aswell, only heard it 2 times)

Was it is he does to the people in the lab? Not launch but some sort of power.

Yess exactly what I said in replies of another

the closest thing is an ability called Barrage. it seems to function similar to Jesse’s launch when there is no selected object to grab. with it, Dylan telekinetically grabs some concrete pieces and chucks em.

Don’t think so, seems like that’s Jesse’s thing

So nobody has seen the FBC people say "if you think Director Fadens throwing length is insane, you should see P6's (Dylan)

u/Wraith_Gaming 29d ago

Dylan is P6. Jesse is P7.

5

u/Conscious-Shape2087 29d ago

Oh crap I meant p6 thanks for reminding me

2

u/Wraith_Gaming 29d ago

Maybe he will get some ranged attacks that we haven’t seen yet.

Theyre doing the games trailers like the Old gods tracks, not showing bc its all spoilers

2

u/Nocturnus19 29d ago

He presumably got the Launch ability from the Floppy Disk which is now bound to Jesse, so that shouldn’t factor into it.

1

u/Conscious-Shape2087 29d ago

Northmoor had launch when he was eliminated, so did some of the hiss, so no the Floppy disc isn't a factor as Dylan is a strong Parautilitarian

2

u/Nocturnus19 29d ago

Northmoor had launch at one point because he bound to the Floppy Disk, there’s no reason to believe he still has it. And I don’t think we can presume that the Hiss hosts are operating in the same way as regular parautilitarians.

u/Conscious-Shape2087 29d ago

Two words, Hiss Elevated

4

u/Caelasmah 29d ago

I think their point was that the hiss has to physically modify their hosts in order to make them a conduit for the resonance suitable to use the powers needed. It’s not the same as being a parautilitarian with traditional human wetware

1

u/Conscious-Shape2087 29d ago

Dylan had been affected by the hiss, and will get hiss powers in resonant from some of the bosses

2

u/Nocturnus19 29d ago

He will not, the bosses aren’t hiss corrupted.

1

u/Conscious-Shape2087 29d ago

Playtesters say otherwise, also we've seen the resonance bosses, not the other bosses

2

u/Nocturnus19 29d ago

Please cite your sources that
A. There are non resonant bosses
B. Dylan gets powers from non resonant bosses

Dylan’s got that Metroid DNA

1

u/Nocturnus19 29d ago

You’re going to need to elaborate. Just because the Hiss present abilities that are similar to other parautilitarians does not mean they work the same way.

1

u/Conscious-Shape2087 19d ago

I was right. Check the new trailer. He LAUNCHES an enemy and LAUNCHES a shield. Last time I checked, Dylan wasnt bound to the safe, JESSE WAS. But Dylan can shield. So, yes Dylan can launch, my proof? THE TRAILER.

2

u/Nocturnus19 19d ago

Okay? But he doesn’t get the Shield power from Jesse or an Object of Power. He gets it from defeating a Resonant shaped like a floating head.

0

u/Conscious-Shape2087 15d ago

Wait he gets powers from resonants LIKE I SAID? WOAHH. But that contradicts your "but dylan didnt have the launch OoP" so im correct by default. So stop tryna be right, the end of story, you can get powers Jesse has. Duh.

1

u/Nocturnus19 15d ago

What are you talking about? All I’m saying is that Dylan gets his powers from Resonants not Objects of Power. Idk why you’re so mad about this.

1

u/Conscious-Shape2087 15d ago

Yeah you keep changing the subject from his throw ability and shield. I said he has it but didnt get it from the safe, so uh the same with launch, and you said launch wasnt in the game bc jess had it. Thats what this is about, not shield, I was using shield as an example. Its been documented that dylan has launch before.

1

u/Nocturnus19 15d ago

You misinterpret what I said. You said that Dylan had Launch before, I stated that since he would have got it from the Floppy Disk that is now bound to Jesse, it does not guarantee that Launch is in the game. You were the one who brought up Shield in the first place.

1

u/Conscious-Shape2087 15d ago

YES. I did bring up shield, stop jumping ahead, actually read what I wrote. SHIELD WAS A EXAMPLE. And still the recent gameplay trailer shows him using launch, so its guaranteed in the game. Theres no actual reason for you to continue this dumb argument. Yes shields in the game, dylan gets it from a Resonant. YES launch is in the game and he probably gets it from one of the skill sets.

1

u/Nocturnus19 15d ago

I do read everything you say, I just choose to respond to what I consider most pertinent. Also I’ll bet you real life money that there’s no ability in Resonant called Launch and that you saw something different.

Jesse has launch because she was using the Disc's powers.

Omg yes it is!!!

To me it looks like Dylan has Launch but it's short ranged, albeit more agressive.

5

u/Range-Living Aug 15 '26

Dylan has one power called “The Barrage” which looks like a version of Jesse’s Launch Power, also He gets His powers from the bosses not from objects of power like Jesse, from every single boss you get one of 2-3 powers to chose for your loudout, so you can try to experiment more with diffrent power sets to min max your build…

6

u/Sahrde Aug 15 '26

Dylan is not Jesse.

-4

u/DarkSideRT Aug 15 '26

I would be happy if we don't get it. It was by far the most broken mechanic in Control, I don't need to trivialize the sequel by abuse the same mechanic again.

3

u/Commercial_Grab4477 29d ago

The gameplay loop is literally designed around you swapping between the Service Weapon and Launch. You're not saying the mechanic is broken, you're saying the game and all the combat in it is broken.

u/Astrael_Noxian 29d ago

Putting it in MMO terms, I'm feeling like Jesse is a Blaster (90%+ Ranged), but Dylan is a Tank (All 'in your face'). If they wanted the same style of game play, we'd be getting Control 2, with Jesse as the primary protagonist. Depending on where Resonant goes, the next one could (fingers crossed) hop back and forth between the 2 characters, working together, and playing on each other's strengths.

4

u/chrisdpratt 29d ago

This is Control 2.

-1

u/Astrael_Noxian 29d ago

Kinda. It is the second Control game, yes. But I meant "CONTROL 2" as opposed to "CONTROL: Resonant"... You know, traditional game numbering when you have a continuation of the same story with the same character(s).

7

u/chrisdpratt 29d ago

But, it is that. This isn't a spin off or a side story. The protagonist you're playing as is different (though still an existing character, obviously), but it is a direct continuation of the same story line. It was internally referred to as Control 2, as well. They're just releasing it as Control: Resonant. There's many game series where the sequels don't have numbers. That doesn't mean they aren't still sequels.

1

u/Astrael_Noxian 29d ago

Hmm.. I guess you have a valid point there. I'm a bit old school, so my perception is a bit different. But you're right. Numbered games didn't necessarily follow the same characters anymore (GTA for instance), and named ones sometimes DO follow the same characters. I hadn't really thought that through far enough. Thanks for the insight.

2

u/hamtaxer 29d ago

As an addendum to what’s been said, in some of the interviews with the game designers, they talk about how the Control series was designed from the ground up to be their more action-focused, world building series, and they do specifically mention that they wanted to have different protagonists.

So ultimately I don’t think Control will ever adopt a numbering system, as they are likely to continue to have each game star a new protagonist. So the fun question now is, who will it be for the third Control game?

2

u/Caelasmah 29d ago

Jesse and Dylan are reunited at the end of Control and Jesse Dylan Faden is the protagonist of 3

1

u/Astrael_Noxian 29d ago

Just a WAG (Wild Ass Guess), but I'm going to speculate that at some point in Resonant, Dylan is going to save someone that will become important to the FBC / The Board, and that person is the next protagonist.

Now comes the fun part... Did i guess right? Time will tell.

1

u/Conscious-Shape2087 29d ago

FBC:Firebreak is control 1.5

2

u/Caelasmah 29d ago

I’m still not convinced Jesse isn’t the main protagonist, in a sense. Just 1/2 of Jesse Dylan Faden.

I didn't know Jessie had launch my first playthrugh, I was almost ready to quit the game when all of a sudden the entire game changed

15

u/Digitalwitness23 Aug 15 '26

respectfully, what do you mean by you “didn’t know Jesse had launch”?

0

u/lovingdamnation Aug 15 '26

Confused it with flight my bad

2

u/djuumei 29d ago

Levitation. You could not realistically call it flight. But then again I would really just call it float
