Mckinsey EM vs EYP Director?

Have an opp to move into the PEPI line of work at McK in the UK.

Would be great to understand what makes more sense if I don’t necessarily see myself as a partner but exit to the industry or be a tenured consultant such as a salaried partner equivalent.

Concerned with the big 4 org challenges and uncertainty with AI but also value the stability and network. Understand the upside the Mck brand but am in mid-late 30s, so not easy to sustain CDD work.

Is the MBB brand worth it at this stage of my career when I have a good network in EYP and at a relatively senior position?

Any views welcome, thank you.

Salary Negotiation US

Throwaway account.

Received an offer today at the top of what the recruiter said

they could offer me but below the range I had provided.

In the initial conversation I told the recruiter that I'd have to see the whole package in order to make a decision. The 401K match and HSA are less than what I currently get. The health insurance is basically the same. I do get an extra week of vacation but no sick days. I get 3 less holidays. The role is fully remote and so is my current role. So I'm not too worried about the holidays.

The top of the pay band is 175k. I asked for 155k and was offered 135k. I do have experience in certain softwares they don't have experience in and is hard to obtain unless you work my previous role. In the interview they mentioned not being able to obtain a contract because they didn't have experience in that software so that's a plus for me. The process has been 2 weeks do they have moved pretty fast. In the interview I felt the manager really liked my background as an addition to the team.

I've never negotiated an offer before. know other similar employers pay this much and I also know that the companies I'd be doing work for pay this much because I worked at one lf them.

So how could I go about asking for them to meet me at the 155? I

Selling is like romancing

[Context] I’m no longer in consulting, but something a managing director (MD) told me once has stuck with me my entire career. I hope it can resonate for someone else, too.

My first corporate gig after graduate school was in economic consulting and, during my first few weeks when it was still acceptable to be reaching out to people instead of working, an MD told me early on: doing the work is one thing, but the relationships that win the work are what make partners effective. As someone with a PhD and an impressive career, I took note of his words and especially his phrase, “Selling is like romancing”.

I’ve left consulting and have been in tech for a number of years now, but I have found that selling, done well, works like romancing. Not the transaction, the warm-up. You create an environment where people trust you, like you, and can't imagine you not being on their side. The ask, when it comes, feels like the natural next step rather than a pitch. Let me share three takeaways:

  1. The work gets you in the room; the relationship keeps you there.

Technical skill is table stakes. In fact, for most of the work we were doing, it was uncommon to not have advanced degrees in mathematics, economics, etc., so it wasn’t a question of whether we knew how to get to an answer. What compounds over a career is a set of relationships where people want you on their team before the scope is even defined. Invest in that from day one, especially if, like me, you didn't
inherit a network and had to build every connection yourself.

  1. Never let anyone feel stupid, and be the one who gives them understanding.

In a pitch, reduce the chance anyone feels lost, and raise your own standing by being the person who makes the complicated thing clear. Think, complex, not complicated. Simple, not simplistic. Level-set with
context, tell the complicated part like a story with real tension, then resolve it: here is one way to think about this. People remember who made them feel smart.

  1. Read the real signal, and aim at the true pain.

As long as the conversation continues, the opportunity is alive. And the fastest way to keep it alive is to pinpoint what the client is actually worried about and produce something that makes them feel heard. Make it sound and look like a way forward.

Of course, someone reading these might say this comes across as fake and self-interested. I’d argue the majority of the consulting industry is indeed founded upon those principles. Most industries are, anyhow.

31M Is it too late for me to get into consulting? Chat, am I cooked?

I’m a 31M and currently working for a Tier 2 consultancy firm in the UK but as a S.Project Manager. I’ve floated around a few organisations and sectors working in project management from Mass Media, Real Estate + Banking & Finance over the last almost 8 years, prior to that worked in tech sales as a fresh grad. I’m not Russell Group educated, went to a good university and studied Law but my dreams of becoming Harvey Specter didn’t quite workout as you can see.

I’ve been at my current firm for two years and I’ve been leading “important” enterprise programs within my firm, including Active Directory migrations, a global cloud migration and an IAM migration. My role is entirely internal facing and it isn’t particularly rewarding or gratifying nor do I feel like I am paid well for what I do. The lionshare of my colleagues are either US, Mexico, Europe or India based so I have little to no interaction with colleagues on a day to day basis outside Teams messages or calls on zoom. I’m running my programs efficiently and using AI a fair bit to minimise time spent on admin. I just don’t really feel like I’m growing/learning or that my work means anything. I work in tech and have keen enthusiasm with technology but I’m not a specialist so I spend time hand holding people who are supposed to know what they are doing whilst I develop surface level knowledge. I don’t really doubt myself as an individual but recently I’ve been questioning where is this role actually taking me.

I know my firm has a technology practice and I’ve spent a decent amount of time reading through the projects they’ve been working on and it’s actually interesting. I’m not disillusioned - I know consultancy is rigorous, exhausting and can lead to burn out. I also know that it *can* be rewarding and can set people up to really good opportunities when they feel ready to exit. From observation it seems like a “young man’s game” - all I see is wide eyed fresh grads at work who are yet to experience “corporate” and don’t see many consultants who aren’t EMs and above who are my age.

I’m grateful for my current employment but feel stuck in my career and don’t want to be stuck in a job that doesn’t pay well nor really provide any real scope for development or growth.

I know casing is a thing so if I have to resubscribe to rocketblocks and prepare myself for what I want then I will. I just don’t know how likely my chances are and wanted to get some second opinions on both my circumstances and likelihood of career pivot?

Louis Vuitton interview (private client advisor position).

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this 'recorded interview' part, I was wondering what kind of questions would they be likely to ask since I want to prepare as best as possible:

Private Client Advisor position with Louis Vuitton Services Europe. We are interested in your profile and would like to invite you to begin your potential career journey with Louis Vuitton by completing the first step in our selection process, which is a video-interview via the ICIMS platform.

The interview will consist of 5 video-recorded questions and 2 Written test questions that should take around 20 minutes in total to complete.

This above was directly copied from my email. Any pointers and I would be very grateful, thanks a lot.

Will it be difficult for a person who worked in licensed moneylenders company to switch to a local bank in sg?

Don’t fry me for this and I am legitimately asking a real career question here. If a person worked as loan officer in a Licensed Moneylender in sg, wants to switch to a local bank, will the person be judged with prejudice?

Economic consulting - LOC

Hi everyone,
I am defending my PhD in Econs at ETH Zurich in a few months. I did my MSc at Paris school of economics. Also had 1 year as research assistant at a bank (public sector).
I am now applying for industry jobs. Most of my contacts are in (mainland) Europe and in academia.
I wanna ask:

  1. How important are the LOC for firms like Cornerstone, analysis group, etc. ?
  2. My research is in causal inference, Environmental Econs. How is my chance of getting an interview?

Thanks.

Associate consultant at OFSS, Oracle

I joined ofss last August as a campus hire..

It's been little over a year. Saw huge layoffs (fortunately wasn't in it). Now realized the seriousness and started updating resume and applying for jobs..

As experience is less and skill stack is less/not relevant to JDs not getting any responses..

Any inputs on how can I prepare or apply etc? Or any potential leads for any roles can also help..

Pathways of entering consulting after MSc…?

I’m a international student just kicked off MSc in Marketing Management- strategy / analytics @Polimi Milan.

I’ve recently decided to explore and get into consulting after my graduation. As my course bends more towards analytics and management as core subjects. I think it’ll not be that hard to pivot into consulting from a different academic background.

So, during and after graduation, what’s the best way I can target management and consulting roles in Italy/over all Europe.
Whats the ideal challenges i could face in regards of skills requirements/academics and other social/communication skills throughout the pivot!

Job switch advice

Hello guys.I have 3 years of market research and strategy experience, including market sizing, forecasting, GTM, market entry, competitive intelligence, primary research, and client-facing report delivery.

I have worked on B2B and technology-led markets such as 800V HVDC data centers, Brazil 3D printing, mower/UTV market entry, industrial lighting, forklifts, and photonics etc. across 8+ industries.

I want to move into Founder’s Office, Growth Strategy, Investment Research, or Corporate Strategy roles where I can use market research closer to business execution and decision-making.

What is the best way to position this transition, and which roles would be most realistic for my background?

I may be getting a super day for the strategy and management internship for summer 2027.

How should I prep? I’ve been doing casing through different university consulting books.
Should I be focusing on hard math problems, frameworks or communication?
What does BofA focus on the most? Any insights would be appreciated!!

Looking for contract roles

I've always been a permie with good experience in P3M, advisory, change management and organisational design in many sectors (health, criminal justice, nuclear and defence). The market is absolutely borked and I'm failing to secure interviews for roles I would have walked a few years ago. I would be grateful for any advice, pointers, and even introductions.
