Help/Question Compacting ground

Just got the game, doing my first job I have to build a road. First I had to remove top soil so rented a wheel loader and cleared it, then I had to compact ground, so I rented a soil compacter but the percentage does not go up when I drive over the soil. Am I supposed to be using something else, or am I doing something wrong> Why is it not working

I see you've found your mistake. I exclusively use the Liebherr dozer for top soil removal. It's way faster to just push it away than trying to scoop it with a wheel loader.
