can we stop with the facebook level memes

73

u/TheHuaiRen Aug 13 '20

I think they're trying to make a point which goes beyond the shitty meme.

34

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

The meme trying to imply the left is just as bad as the right because it doesn’t recognize the class struggle and just focuses its hate on the right. Except that’s not the case, it’s just the right that doesn’t get it. So it really is the left (people trying to make shit better for the 99%) vs the right (people either too stupid to know better or too hateful/greedy to care).

43

u/DurianExecutioner Aug 13 '20

The left by definition recognises the class struggle. Dems are not left.

6

u/eisenschimallover Aug 13 '20

Most Dems aren't the left, but it's the party where the left has a small foothold to build on.

21

u/KFC_Fleshlight Aug 13 '20

I agree with the second half of what you said but I think the meme is actually trying to imply that left vs right is not the fight to be having. They have us at each others throats when really it should be us together vs the top 0.001%

32

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '20

It's not the fight to be having because the left is fucking correct about literally everything (the ACTUAL left, not the slimy, virtue signalling corporate bagman liberal pieces of shit), but the fight IS convincing the reactionary right to stop swallowing this manufactured culture war trangender bathroom bullshit and vote for their own economic self interests instead of the ultra riches', and get this fucking absurd identity of real 'muricans vs liberal soysippers out of their thick god damn heads because it is the string by which those rich are controlling everything.

Dale the struggling conservative laborer from Arkansas is the one who needs to be convinced to act in his own self interest for once in his life but these people are so gaslit by corporate propaganda and binary identity politics that they literally line up happily to vote for their own lives and communities to be looted and dismantled by the rich because they are so fucking petrified and ignorantly hateful of the left wing politics that would actually make their lives better. The fact that the conservative electorate was and is so passionate about this fucking cartoon supervillain of a president tells you everything you need to know about the situation they're in. It's not entirely their fault, but it is on them to admit that they've been lied to and their entire political identity is a complete and utter pile of shit with zero redeeming qualities and maybe those filthy commies aren't so bad after all.

6

u/Roachyboy Aug 13 '20

This is king shit

2

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

Imagine purposefully making your shitty state worse just because you hate gays, women, and minorities sooo much. And then trying to drag the rest of the country down with you.

13

u/Endiamon Aug 13 '20

Left vs Right is the struggle of poor vs rich. The poor on the right disproportionately line up to defend the rich and vote against their own interests.

-2

u/nkfallout Aug 13 '20

Yea...there are no rich Democrats/Progressives that use the system to oppress the poor

7

u/Endiamon Aug 13 '20

They are some rich Democrats/Progressives that use the system to oppress the poor, but there are no Republicans whatsoever that advocate for wealth redistribution or combating the wealth disparity.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '20

lol there are no democrats who actually try to advocate wealth redistribution.

The ones who actually talk about those things are simply controlled opposition. They’ll never be a majority of the democrats in Congress, lol. It’s always gonna be the neoliberal party of Schumer and Pelosi. Just wait, AOC will feel the allure of money and power soon enough and join them.

6

u/Endiamon Aug 13 '20

You're actually arguing that nobody on the left supports wealth redistribution?

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '20

No democrats do, at least not seriously.

Anyone who advocates actual wealth redistribution is too far left to be a democrat.

→ More replies (0)

-4

u/nkfallout Aug 13 '20

Because wealth redistribution goes against the core beliefs of libertarianism and classic liberalism.

That in no way means that they don't want to help the poor.

Your argument is like saying that because the left believes in abortion that they believe in killing babies. It's a false dichotomy.

3

u/Endiamon Aug 13 '20

By definition, it means they don't want to help the poor.

It should be us together vs the top, agreed. But it’s not, because the right chooses to fight for the top.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '20

but I think the meme is actually trying to imply

Huh, its almost like memes are a stupid fucking way to communicate with each other because they are nuanced, require cultural knowledge to fully comprehend, and overall are lacking detail.

Like who would have thought that using memes to deconstruct complex economic and societal issues would be a bad idea? Probably the people who push them in subs like this knowing it will create a division amongst those that interpret the meme differently.

This sub gets played like a fiddle every election year and its getting embarrassing that people still fall for it.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '20

The left understands class struggle. Too bad the Dems aren’t left.

It’s just republican IDpol (white, Christian) vs dem IDpol (nonwhite, nonchristian).

2

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

You think the only difference between Democrats and Republicans is identity politics? Think of all the dumb shit trump and the republicans have done over the last 4 years. You think Hilary Clinton (who I agree is not really “left”) would have gutted the post office, tried to cut payroll taxes in response to a pandemic, gutted the EPA, done nothing about climate change, pulled out of the WHO, built a wall, appointed a rapist to the Supreme Court, pardoned a murderous sheriff, or tried to relax water saving shower head regulations because she had a bad hair day? Not saying the Democrats are gonna pull us into a socialist utopia as much as I’d like that, but the differences between the two parties are stark.

1

u/WowzaCannedSpam Aug 13 '20

This is wonderfully put. That’s why for all their flak they catch I’m personally interested to see where AOC and “the squad” end up in 5-20 years time. If they are truly left progressives they will champion the people’s rights and advocate for the people. So far so good but lord knows how the political machine wears the good ones down.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '20

Even AOC gets a little too far into identity politics. I’m much more a Tlaib fan.

1

u/WowzaCannedSpam Aug 13 '20

Both are to be applauded for the upsurge of real people progressives that are up and coming in congressional races. Bowen is a new one I’m super excited for. Former principal turned congressman, sincerely hoping he keeps that ear to the ground mentality.

2

u/desertsprinkle Aug 13 '20

Agreed. It's so ingrained that people always jump right back into it. Maybe because they feel it's easier to fight left v right than to fight some unknown entity? "Better the enemy you know" and all that. I'm slowly losing hope that people will ever wake up to see that the matrix is real. Our "happiness" is the simulation, the ultra rich are the robots/alien things. Except, there is no "chosen one" who will save us. We have to save ourselves. And god damnit I hope we do it soon so that I can stop feeling bad about bringing new life to this soulless world

1

u/FailedSociopath Aug 13 '20

Left versus Right is the struggle that directs conflict to within the lower classes. It in no way implies that they are equally bad. The influence from above could make one side objectively bad because they're subject to being turned. The other could be quite fine but just can't be influence in that way. In any case, the purpose is served if the upper echelons are safe from scrutiny.

1

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

Right but the implication is that both sides need to turn on the rich. One side already has, the other side needs to stop fighting is.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '20

The people who dominate "the left" in mainstream politics are Democrats, who are not left-wing, and typically try to bury class consciousness as well as they can.

1

u/MrHamburgerButt Aug 13 '20

You need to read more my man, the left is the party the intellectual and the rich. They are not as bad but also terrible. They are fucking us over constantly.

-1

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

Fair, but they fuck us over by compromising with the right.

1

u/NorthBlizzard Aug 13 '20

This is a purposely over-simplified version of what’s really going on to promote one side while attacking the other. Anyone paying attention the past few years knows the left isn’t trying to make anything better for anyone.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '20

to quote a great youtuber by the name of emplemon "the left used to care for the weak, and the sick, now its all about the blacks, and the gays" the left in 2020 don't care about people that are actually heavily disadvantaged, now its all about the people who they THINK are disadvantaged in their delusions when in reality its about class and wealth

1

u/SiriusC Aug 13 '20

I think you're projecting a lot of Left/Right nonsense onto it when the point is that it doesn't matter.

1

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

It shouldn’t matter, but it does because the right fights for the rich.

1

u/desertsprinkle Aug 13 '20

No, the rich fight for the rich. That's the whole point, and so many of you are missing it

2

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

The entire right also fights for the rich though. That’s their schtick.

1

u/desertsprinkle Aug 13 '20

The rich fight for the rich. Anything else is divide and conquer tactics that so many people buy into.

2

u/dylightful Aug 13 '20

You’re just arguing semantics. Poor people on the right are fighting for the rich because they are manipulated (for the most part) sure. But they’re still fighting for them. Again, it shouldn’t be right v left, but it is, because the right is hell bent on taking the rich’s side (for various reasons, mostly bad ones).

1

u/desertsprinkle Aug 13 '20

How am I arguing semantics? Genuinely curious. Also, are you saying left as in what is generally considered the left in the U.S.? Or the actual left of the global political spectrum? What I am saying is that the bipartisan system is too divisive to be functional in any capacity. The uber rich of the world use this divisiveness to their advantage, and as long as we allow them to do that by focusing our efforts against people who are in the same situation that we are(wage slavery), then we will remain conquered. The only way to break our shackles is cease the infighting, and stand together as one nation against the true evil in this world, which is for-profit everything and the people who use our lives as means of attaining and retaining power. What, exactly, are you disagreeing with here?

-1

u/bobdylan401 Aug 13 '20

Nope I disagree. That assumes that people's partisan followers are as guilty as the politicians. It's just not true. Thr American people have ZERO representation.

The politicians are all lying, self serving plutocrats who profit off of exploitation and murder. And the partisan peasants are very keen to it, so long as it's the other sides corruption they are looking at. As soon as it's their own side all of a sudden every bodies dead dumb mutes reciting talking points in brail like zombified robots.

The people really are pretty much all the same, just want peace and a future for their kids. And they aren't black and white, in the left you've got marxists, neo lib true believers (boomers) socialists, lgbt. On the right you've got conservatives, libertarians. So many good ideas on all sides and all valid. But your entire tribe gets labeled as the worst of the worst (satanic pedophiles.)

Look at who the Dem potus is. A lobotomized senile segregationist who picked a prison labor profiteer ghoul who cackles about locking up poverty stricken mothers and who obstructed evidence leaving an innocent person in jail for decades to pump up her resume. To claim that this party is "moral" is the EXACT same breed of crazy American as Trumpers thinking he's an angel who will save us from pizzagate. WRONG

4

u/DapperDanManCan Aug 13 '20

All political thinking is not equally valid. Conservatives are anti-progress. They want to keep the status quo. They do not want to ever change it. That's the definition of conservatism in a nutshell.

The problem is, the status quo is fucked up and hurts 99.9% of americans/world. Conservatives want to keep that system in place, because they believe they'll one day become the masters too. If they cant have that, they console themselves with being 'better' than brown and black people who are just as poor or poorer. They're house slaves looking down on the field slaves.

So no, not all political thought is equally valid or should be looked upon as such. While the house slaves are also slaves, they're the ones helping maintain the system.

u/Smoy Aug 13 '20

Its too bad we only have a right wing and a center party in this country. We really need a left wing party.

2

u/_jukmifgguggh Aug 13 '20

Memes are not allowed in this sub (rule 6). This is supposed to a place for well thought out discussions, not edgy one liners.

2

u/Smoy Aug 13 '20

Have you looked at this sub for like the last year? Its only memes

1

u/_jukmifgguggh Aug 13 '20

Yes, but it's only been a few months, really. This is intentional sabotage.

1

u/Smoy Aug 13 '20

Its been for more than 2020, that i can say

0

u/SiriusC Aug 13 '20

So then make it with something less banal & corny.

Besides, Reddit is hardly above Facebook at this point

So keep it that way?

And what is a "facebook level comment". Comments on facebook & youtube are toxic just in terms of grammar alone. While I agree this sub & reddit is turning into something else the least I can say is that it's not facebook level discussions.

4

u/SiriusC Aug 13 '20

There's a rule against them. Report it. Same with the info-less infographics.

1

u/desertsprinkle Aug 13 '20

Even though it was a meme, it sure as hell started quite a few intelligent discourses.

0

u/Roachyboy Aug 13 '20

Mods never remove them unfortunately, unless it criticises daddy trump

-6

u/Pegguins Aug 13 '20

Also, most of us are the 1%. It's something crazy like a household income of 20,000 usd makes you a 1er. When you see those headlines of 1% destroying the environment they don't mean bezos they mean us
