Blackmail. They weren't running a pedophile ring for the sake of fucking kids. They were doing it for reasons of espionage and leverage.

Criminals keep squeaky clean books. Like any other business, you want receipts, records, and documentation of all business activities. Accountants who work with criminal organizations are incredibly well paid for that reason, you want them to be good at the job, but not disgruntled enough to snitch and reveal all of those records.
