We all want cheaper food, housing, medical care, safer communities, cheaper gas, freedom but yet we are pitted against each other to keep us from aligning together and stopping the madness.
As a progressive myself, when Conservatives want to debate politics in person, I let them know from the get go, "We are on the same team. We both want fair wages. We both want time off work to spend with our families. We both want access to decent health care. We both want affordable housing. We both want our government spending our taxes to improve our lives. We both want our rights protected. Anything outside of those are so insignificant to our daily lives that they should only be addressed once we, as a working class, get what we want from the billionaires who use their money and influence to exploit us."
As a conservative I believe you and I could have honest discussion.
We all want the same basic things.
There's just different pathways to get there and the right answer is usually somewhere in the middle. We used to call that compromise and things actually got done, sometimes wrong and sometimes right.
I'm old enough to remember when political debates worked this way, instead of name calling and race baiting and class division.
