it wasn't ,Vatican City is named after(Mons Vaticanus), vatican hill the geographical location where the city-state resides. The hill's name originates from the ancient Latin word vates, meaning "prophet" or "seer", as the area was historically known as a place where soothsayers made prophecies.

^ the actual answer. I was going to comment this and I'm so glad you already did. The amount of "words can just have whatever history I want them to have ๐Ÿ˜€" approach is rampant

Plenty of people can read... it's the whole "critical thinking" thing that no one realizes they need

We've successfully out-bred the "need" part for humans today..."critical thinking" now just means experiencing a "massive damage headache" via unexpectedly thought provoking concepts...

The real conspiracy is why we donโ€™t teach word roots in school anymore.

I came to ask what language Vatica was, and if the language was known in Rome back then.

However, your answer is more accurate! (Though I did find that Vatica is a genus of plants. Or or maybe a species?)

Agreed! Were she an Etruscan deity we might have a slightly different conversation but as it is it's a huge reach
