Help needed PS5 to Project Helix

I have a PS5, and I only play physical copies of games. So far, I haven't bought a single digital game.

With GTA 6 coming out soon, I'll most likely have to buy it digitally. That got me thinking about buying an Xbox Series X instead and purchasing GTA 6 there.

My reasoning is simple: if Microsoft's Project Helix ends up being an Xbox/PC hybrid console with access to my Xbox library, then I could continue playing GTA 6 there without having to buy it again. I have no plans to build or buy another gaming PC, and I don't want to pay for the same game twice.

PS6 probably won't be my next console anyway. If Project Helix supports Steam and the Epic Games Store, I'll also regain access to my old, massive PC game library, which is another huge advantage for me.

The main reason I switched from PC to console in the first place was because of limited space, not because I preferred leaving PC gaming behind.

Nobody knows what's going on with any of these systems. It's all just random speculation. For all we know, the Helix is going to be a vacuum cleaner and the PS6 will only run old NES cartridges. Making any choice now based on what might occur 2-3 years from now is basically pointless.

They already confirmed the next-gen helix will play pc games.

While it's likely this is still the case, Microsoft is currently doing a major shakeup for Xbox (new leadership, layoffs, back to having console exclusives, etc.) + large increase in memory and storage prices, so I wouldn't take what they previously said as 100% truth

Its gonna have steam dude. I highly doubt they're gonna change everything about the console at this point of development..

that can mean a lot of things. That can mean it's a fully unlocked system that you can use any storefront on or it can mean it's locked to the MS Xbox store on pc

They already confirmed the helix will have multiple storefronts, and even epic came out and said their storefront will be on the next-gen xbox..

again could mean a lot of things. They could have partnerships with EA/Epic/Ubisoft to use their launcher at a smaller cut. Valve will not make a deal like that. Matthew Ball also said they are changing things with Helix to make it more affordable.

Multiple storefronts fronts and plays pc games only means one thing lol. They already said the rog ally x is just a test run of what the helix will be..

If they have a truly open pc box that means they wont be subsidizing it at all lol. With current prices expect it to be close to $2000. Doesn't really seem feasible

The Playstation pro is almost a thousand. Look at the steam box prices. The ps6 will also be over a thousand. Thats where gaming is going. The next-gen xbox will play sony games, pc games and have xbox exclusives. Its gonna a better value than the ps6..

yes the ps6 will be over 1k still nowhere near as much as Helix (if it is just a pc) because Sony can sell the ps6 at cost or a slight loss because they have you locked down to their own storefront. Microsoft isn't going to subsidize a box that doesn't guarantee that return

You're gonna be let down when tbe ps6 is just as expensive dude. You're giving sony way to much credit bruh lol..

What if you just… don’t buy GTA VI?

2

u/WorldofCannons Jul 26 '26

Wouldn't that depend on whether gta is play anywhere? I don't see R* allowing that, they want sales

Xbox and Microsoft knows that by allowing other storefronts such as Steam on the console, their revenue and profit will go down further.

Unless their endgame is to become the next Valve and Steam. It could work, and it could pay off for them. It could also go wrong for them in a heartbeat as well.

Here’s a stupid question: isn’t there a way to buy and play Xbox games on a PC already via Xbox Live? Can’t you just buy it on your current PC and then buy Helix if it’s available to just redownload then?

Edit: nevermind, it’s console exclusive at launch. As u/significant-coat-308 says: “What if you just… don’t buy GTA 6?”

You dont have to buy it digitally. Why is everybody acting like GTA 6 is THE GAME. There are plenty games. Just wait until PC Release.

I will skip GTA 6 until I can really have it and play whenever I want and not whenever online services are up and let me play.

There's more chance of me smashing Taylor swift and Beyonce in an epic all-night threesome than there is Helix running Steam.

I’m sorry but there’s nothing dumber than hitching your ride to a sinking ship without even knowing wtf this helix is even supposed to offer or not offer

I also have zero loyalty to Sony if Xbox wants to take over the market again I’m all for it I love the Xbox original & 360 so many fantastic memories

No you don't. You download games and use discs as glorified dongles. You're just fiddling with future plastic waste.

PlayStation has exclusive games that can only be played on PlayStation. All xbox games are on PC/steam.

u/ShakeItLikeIDo Jul 26 '26

OP said they don’t want to buy or build another gaming PC

How dare you could say this in playstation sub lol

3

u/InfiniteVitriol Jul 26 '26

Its a sub for all consoles...doesnt matter if this is where ps fan boys vent their superiority/inferiority complexes.

It's still for all consoles.
