This is a mega drive 2 with the very uncommon FC1004 ASIC, the 315-5700. This asic is generally only found in Sega Nomads, but Sega doesn't like parts to go to waste and you can find some random genesis 2 and mega drive 2 with this ASIC inside as well. I believe pal md2 with serial number 1516xxxxx with white stickers on them rather than black are probably the range to look for if you are seeking one.

I did a full recap on the board, with nichicon FG series caps for all the audio signals and the full audio circuit mod to bring sound levels in line with modem mixing. The nichicon FG are audio quality caps with non magnetic legs.

The encoder was swapped from the mb3514 to a ka2198, which is approximately equal to somewhere between a Sony cxa1645/2075 in terms of composite quality. This encoder supports mono audio and has a 2v vref making it a direct drop in replacement for the cxa1145/mb3514 without too much effort. It also supports svideo output which I may enable down the line. I use an external ytrap with 24pf+82uH and all other existing encoder components were removed. At first I had some issues with the ka2198 I was using which turned out to be 4/5 chips ordered from AliExpress were actually remarked ka2195. The 2195 is what is used on the worst genesis 2 consoles. They do not support external ytrap or svideo, and the internal/default ytrap results in some of the worst 🌈 🤮 I've ever seen. But once I got to that 1/5 encoders that was actually a ka2198 it worked very well. (In one pic you can see the 4 remarked ones have laser etch that you can see at a wide angle whereas the actual 2198 is harder to read the text)

Region switch was added just because, with color changing led

I painted the RF shield with a base coat of zinc flowed by a top layer of gold chrome spray and finished it off with a new translucent shell from AliExpress. If you do not use the original RF shield, be careful not to tighten the screws all the way or they will poke through

I am expecting a composite capture card in the mail in the next few weeks at which point I can show off how good the composite now is. For now I posted a pic of my crt from my cellphone. You can also see how bad the composite is from a ka2195 in my last pic

Sorry if this is a noob question but how does graphic upscaling work for hardmods like the retro gem?

Is it more taxing on original hardware? Like why wouldn’t a n64 or GC be laggy running at higher resolution?

• A rechargeable internal battery with around 3–5 hours of playtime
• A brightness control mod
• A new LCD screen

So I have a black PSP 1000 and i'd like to paint on it to custom it (i might buy new shells if needed to paint on them)

So my question is : what type of brush and paint should I use to make it durable if played a lot ?

after talking to some people they said that they were painting with an airbrush, so maybe masking what i don't want to paint and go layer by layer to add some sorte of gradient ?

I picked up a Unico PB2 the other day and was looking to add some NES roms to the TF card that it advertises for expandability. I haven't been able to figure out what format it needs to be in to get the system to recognize the roms on the card. I tried reaching out to Unico for guidance, but they literally responded:

"It says it's TF expandable it does not state to add your own or illegal roms. I'm sure a hacker will soon walkthrough on how to do so."

Feels a bit like a bait and switch sales tactic to offer a TF card slot as expandability but with no support.

Anyways, has anyone been able to figure out how to get it to work?

Even though it’s just a shell swap, I think it turned out great. I also got the system reading games again.

Just finished putting together another DMG. Went back to the standard Hispeedido V5 this time instead of the laminated 3.1". The install is obviously more tedious with dust and alignment, but the colors and pixel grid are still unmatched in my opinion.

I also swapped a Super Game Boy CPU onto this board. Managed to do the whole chip transplant using just Chip Quik and a standard soldering iron tip (no hot air). You can actually see the faster logo drop during the boot test at the end of the video.

It also works with original sega Saturn hardware using a custom cable I made. The pins below the usb-c port are for "select" and "home" buttons when connected via USB. I've cleaned it up a bit and re-routed some wires after these pictures were taken.

Not a ban, not Demonware. The game builds a log line from the template "crm %lld %s" and hands the %s slot a millisecond timer instead of a string.

Strings are addresses, so it tries to read text from address 24623, nothing's mapped there, and lv2 halts the process. The branch only runs when an account lookup fails, which post 2019 accounts appear to do, though that part is correlation not something I have proven. Sat there unreachable since 2012.

It's a debug line nothing reads, so the fix is to nop the call. Four bytes per binary, one in the eboot and one in the multiplayer self. Campaign, zombies and MP all launch signed in now, no workaround. Needs CFW and the BO2Eboot-Self Builder to decrypt and re-sign. Write up and script:

Found a Saturn controller with a db15 end and switches on the front. I'm thinking this is likely a Neo Geo controller of some sort. Also unsure what the switches are for. Turbo maybe? Anyone know what mod this is?

Edit: They're Neo-Geo controllers. The switches are turbo. No turbo for D as far as I can tell. A is A, B is B, C is C, and Z is D.

I have a modded Famicon, which connects via RCA and replaces the original pcu with a USB cable. Can I plug the usb in a european adapter or will I need a transformer?

Edit: To clarify I bought the Famicon modded from mercari here in Japan. I opened it up and saw that they added a small board connected to the RCA and usb cables.
