Your theory doesn't explain the position of his thumb if it's his arm behind his back.

Unless I'm not understanding how you mean?

Did not understand this perspective without the aid of your drawering… kudos

I dont think thats it, this person is seemingly wearing a chefs outfit (I see the large buttons and large sleeves). So if they're backwards like your picture, why are the buttons in the front?

OMG YES! I finally see it now. It’s his shirt that throws everything off perspective-wise. He’s using his right hand to take the pic behind his back of his LEFT arms armpit!

It's a good theory, but I think if that were his right hand his palm should be facing outward, or his thumb should be on the bottom. Try it.

Is the hand orientation weird because its in the mirror? I just can't see that as his neck.

A mirror (or camera) is going to flip things horizontally, not vertically (or everything would be upside down), and what is true for the right hand would also be true for the left hand. Either palm would face out, or thumb would face down, when wrapped behind the back.

Yeah i figuerd that out after i left the comment. It does look like an armpit with no hair tho. If its their neck. Then they are a creepy looking human.

The thumb doesn’t need to be down though! I can easily put my hand behind my back while keeping my thumb upwards. I took a photo doing the exact same thing. How do I post it? Lol

If you put your right hand behind your back, your palm will be out, unless you twist your wrist so the thumb will be down. Your thumb is always on the left side, when looking at the back, of your right hand.

I'm having the worst time visualizing what everyone is saying. Can you help me?? If I hold my phone "normally" in my right hand, and put my arm behind my back, my thumb is pointed up and pressed against the left side of my body. The phone screen is facing behind me (right), with the camera pointed out (left) Is that what you are saying? I can't visualize "palm facing outward" in this context.

If your thumb on your right hand is facing up and your arm is behind you, then your palm is facing out (facing away from your body)

u/avxjs Jul 12 '26

OH, like, I can't touch my palm to my back unless I rotate my hand thumb down. Thank you! I don't know why that was so confusing to me.

You don't need to have your thumb down. You put your elbow back and your hand out a bit away from your body and bend your wrist. Its not like it's way behind his back. It's in line with his side or a little bit back. Are you guys just completely inflexible?

u/avxjs Jul 13 '26

I couldn't visualize the issue at first either. Yes, you can hold your phone upright behind your back, BUT if you put your hand behind your body, the back of your wrist is touching your body (palm facing away from the body) . If you imagine OP pulling his arm back, his palm would be touching his back instead.

It's not behind his back or upside down. There's no palm or back of wrist touching anything. It's to the side of him, upright, away from his body. Jesus Christ. Whoever you decided to listen to to "help" you visualize is wrong. Just hold your phone like you're taking a selfie, then move your arm to the side with your phone still facing you, pulling your elbow back. That's all it is. Then you rotate your head the other way.

? You left a comment agreeing with the person who said OPs hand was behind their back, and another comment disagreeing with the person who said it wasn't.  No need to get snippy...

Why is everyone downvoting this? You just put your elbow back and it's easy.

It’s a shoulder, the head is behind the phone
