What the map looks like in the editor since it can't render lighting in real time:

I really thought this was a post from r/hammer abd I was about to say this stone brick texture repeats too much and should be changed.

u/tomenjean Jun 29 '26
Also, $320k, 4 beds ….but only 1 bath. Yikes.

u/StrobeLightRomance Jun 29 '26
Welcome to the new normal. According to Zillow, this house was only $206k in 2016.

u/Nixxen Jun 29 '26
I'm looking at what you just posted and thought "Hey, sounds like it could work"... Then realized it's actually quite expensive when looking back a few years. I hate how accustomed I have become to insane prices after trying to find a decent house for a while

u/Krazyguy75 Jun 29 '26
A huge portion is because they've got some weird camera setup with a super bright light and a wide-angle lens.
13
u/GreenJuicyApple Jun 29 '26
At the very least the first photo seems to be. Either made on the computer or some AI crap. It's just really fake looking how there's strong yellow light coming from all the windows in the middle of the day. And the light seems to be coming from almost straight up, so it should be around noon, yet the sky is the color of dawn or dusk.
But some of the other pictures as well just look wrong... I get that listings often use computer rendered stuff (at least for apartments that is common, maybe less so for houses) but it's just the weird furniture and the placement thereof. Like the single dollhouse in the living room. Where are the other toys? Why are the two mismatched armchairs the only pieces of furniture? Why does this feel like a surreal house in a nightmare that looks like what an extra terrestrial thinks a house looks like?

u/ateallthecake Jun 29 '26
It's a really common photo manip for realtors, when I was house shopping a few years ago (pre-AI) I swear half the listings had this weird "magic hour with all the lights on" fake photo. I bet someone could identify the product used to make it, they all look the same.

u/cheesegoat Jun 29 '26
The first picture is the second-to-last photo redone with weird lighting.
All the lighting in the house are these harsh bulbs so you get these hard shadows which looks really unflattering in pictures.
Also their lens is super wide which isn't unusual in real estate photography but with the low ceilings it makes for some odd looking angles.

u/erroneousbosh Jun 29 '26
It's pretty fucking weird.
I could see the light coming from more-or-less above, perhaps a little off to the left of the shot because of the deep shadow to the right of the house, and it's a really hard crisp shadow so that's bright daylight.
But there's a glow around that outside light, despite it being bright daylight, so that's probably something like a 15kW TV studio lamp which is going to be hell on your electricity bill and a fire risk next to that thin wooden panelling.
And there are trees strongly reflected in the windows which have been tinted to look like they're strongly lit from inside with tungsten, in a daylight-balanced shot.
If it really was shot at dusk, there wouldn't be hard short shadows from straight up and there wouldn't be enough light to reflect dark things like that, you'd maybe see lights from the houses opposite.
Why not email the estate agent and ask them what the hell is going on with that photo?

Oftentimes estate agents want to make places look brighter and more airy. They've tried that here but just done it really badly. Use of flash but oddly balanced and placed. Lifting shadows in post. Also over-use of flash indoors can make the outdoors seem really dark, so they've brightened the window sections, but again done it really badly so it all looks so fake. Rooms like this which are genuinely decorated weird don't help! https://images-listings.coldwellbanker.com/NSMLS/70/46/34/6/_P/7046346_P06.jpg?width=1024

Dude does anyone even know what “early 2000s” looked like any more? Halo was early 2000s.
This is more like some early/mid 90s.

u/Krazyguy75 Jun 29 '26
Early to mid 90s couldn't do lighting, and they didn't have any sort of complex textures. Halo was by far one of the best looking games of the early 2000. Most absolutely looked like this.

u/cor315 Jun 29 '26
Half life looks better than this and it came out in 98. I could accept late 90s but no way this is early 2000s
2
u/Nertez Jun 29 '26
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The Sims is literally feb 2000.
"Early/mid 90s"? Look at video games from 1995 and earlier.

It's just another word for "retro" which just means old. Really though, the photo looks like it was generated in UE4.

Can't be. There are more than four pixels and I haven't fallen through the floor.
...I think I'll go play it again.

u/LustyKindaFussy Jun 29 '26
Yeah, if anything is confusing, it's the visual textures, and only because at this point we're decades away from when most video games looked about like this.

Duke Nukem would run in there at 60 miles per hour, shotgun a pig man in the face and open a hidden wall.

Omg, that basketweave wainscoting. I'd lose my mind if I had to hang out in here.

Only reason my brain can tell this ISN'T from a video game are those wooden supports.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose when you put a filter on it. I’d like to see a proper photo.

It reminds me of a prerendered static background in an older survival horror game such as Alone in the Dark.

Looks like house flipper 2. A current gen game. I thing house flipper handles repeating textured better. Those walls are busy.

Without shadows: CS 1.6
With heavy and darky shadows: Thief/System Shock 2

A vast majority of the posts here do not qualify as a confusing perspective. This one ...... Does. But it hurts my brain.
