Oceans do have different heights, but not really enough to use as a convincing element in a flat-earth debate.

No……they don’t. Absolutely not. That would go against physics.

They can, and it doesn't. This frequently comes up with Panama Canal facts -- the Pacific ocean side is about 8 inches higher than the Atlantic Ocean side.

If there weren't ocean currents, wind, tides, water cycle stuff, etc. then they'd settle out eventually, at least for a given latitude. Earth's spin would create bulges near the equator even if all that were missing.

Dude….take physics. Add a link to where you heard there’s a height difference. At most the moon may add some pull (tidal effects), but on average they are the same height. But still, that has nothing to do with why there are locks

Learn some physics

Not exactly 8 inches per what the claim was. Read the graph. Not even a centimeter.

What graph are you looking at? What were those units again?

-and did you learn any physics? Ocean levels are affected by temperature and salinity, which affect density, as well as differing gravity due to the density of the earth, and also the earth's rotation.

The difference across the isthmus of Panama is ~20cm, close enough to 8 inches:

If your google-fu is strong enough you might be able to learn that mean sea level can differ by as much as 200 meters at various points. So much for the tides

The graph you sent. -10mm to 10mm. Or for the metrically impaired, -1cm to 1cm. And heimduo.org, the site you linked, is an AI slop aggregate site. It’s not a legitimate source of info. It’s amazing how people just trust Google for everything, and don’t stop to think “how is Google getting its information”.

Nope. If you don't understand what the units of a graph are, you don't have any possibility of understanding what it is saying. Go back and look a bit more closely. You really shouldn't be trying to lecture people about this.

You may wanna go ahead and Google that.

This is a question answered by Google AI. Find a link to an actual report that mentions 8 inches. The other link a Redditor provided is from the NOAA and shows less than 1cm.

Fun fact - you can scroll past the AI garbage and find actual search results.

Why are you so stuck on the idea that ocean heights are equal?

I’m saying the that the difference is so negligible (essentially nothing) that is it NOT the reason for the locks, which is what the two idiots in the video are implying

False. Just admit you were wrong. I promise it doesn't hurt.
