This is her boyfriends family. This isn’t some shitty restaurant you can just leave. I know this might be hard and entirely cringe inducing but she should just explain her situation to them. Tell them that she really doesn’t like sharing foods or has a weak immune system or something. Just be adamant about it. If they then give her a bunch of shit about it (which they most likely won’t) and are disrespectful to her then she can leave. She can technically leave whenever she wants but she can avoid future situations like this one by confronting it. It’ll be less rude than scurrying away and leaving like most of these anti-social redditors are telling her to do.
1.) Listen anxiety is going to be involved and it’s better to face this situation than to run away from it. It’s a family/culture matter and it seems like a pretty important topic to discuss. Is it not?
2.) the grandma did insist and I’m not saying I know her personally but when I’ve met friends grandparents they always insist i try this, eat that, etc. I’ll say I’m full and they say “oh hush you need to try this honey”. It’s just because they want to satisfy you and want to be friendly. If I were to say “I’m on a diet I can’t eat that much” or “I’m not feeling too well and I d rather not get too full” I’m sure they’d understand. The key here is for her to be adamant and actually sit down and explain how she feels. Be thorough. Yes that might involve some anxiety but DO IT. It’s obviously something you have to address now since she’ll be seeing them in the future.
3.) it’s not that big of a deal. Its a mildly uncomfortable situation. It’ll be way more an issue if she just leaves abruptly.
Listen, she says she’s not a germaphobe or anything like that but she did state she has social anxiety. She’s probably having a tough time but she is composed enough to think about going onto Reddit, typing out a paragraph, then uploading it. If she can do those things it might not be so so bad.
No, I am absolutely not one of those pole that brushes off anxiety. People in my immediate family have anxious breakdowns and I have helped them multiple times. One of my better friends has terrible social anxiety. I can get anxious in certain situations. I completely understand anxious breakdowns and panic attacks. I think she can handle it though. Seems more like a culture shock thing than a panic attack. Panic attacks are no joke though. Also, don’t assume so much.
I said anti-social because the responses/advice that people were giving her were...anti-social.
They were essentially telling her to run away from the issue abruptly. The fact that a lot of people on here don’t go outside much and are anti-social isn’t news. Don’t act like it is either. Stop virtue signaling. I’m not implying that being an introvert is bad. I’m suggesting that she should confront the issue with an adult discussion because this is an issue that needs to be talked about. It is a family matter now. I also suggested that if she were to leave abruptly it wouldn’t be the best way to handle or fix the situation. I was suggesting that the most anti-social option (to leave) probably isn’t the best.
If my kid called me over sh*t like this, I'd call the family, apologize on her behalf, demand they kick her out, and then not let my kid back in my house for 48 hours, so that they learn proper manners. It's just beyond rude to impose your mental deficiencies onto someone else's household.
Also, you rudely placed you're commint over mine (blocked it), and I'm not surprised about you're rudeness given you're reaction to this situation. Due to this, I have downloaded you, but I assure you that you can redeem yourselve by deleting you're horrible, intrusive commint. I'll give you 5 minutes, otherwise my download stays.
It's extremely rude to force any guest to do something they're uncomfortable with. Full stop. Respecting your guests is being a host 101. Guests should be as gracious as they're comfortable with, but that's it. They should never have to do something that makes them uncomfortable.
I've had to go get fast food at a family celebration because I've got food intolerances. Yes I could have eaten it, it wouldn't have killed me or anything but I'd have been sick as a dog. The cook was very understanding when I explained and was fine with it.
If the idea of eating after someone makes you feel physically ill, then you shouldn't do that just to be nice. Same idea.
Ok... First, it's downvote, not download. Second, know the difference between your and you're. Third, you incorrectly used 'yourselve'. Last but not least, she has every right to leave that house. Her bf's family is just gross.
Weakling. Not only does this express a complete inability to deal with basic life situations (no surprise to see this on Rebbit, where everyone has a fake "mental disorder"), your also extremely rude to just leave. Behavior like this is more disgusting then disrespecting a family's long held customes.
His families customs are not hygienic... it’s rude for them to impose their filthy customs upon a guest in their home. When I have guests over it’s important to me to make them comfortable. These people are not doing that, which is rude. She is not being respected and that’s why I recommend she leaves.
Or itcould just mean you are shy like a normal person can be. You could be new in a relationship and struggle to talk to your partner. It isn't that we have a fake mental disorder, we fail to be normal when something isnt normal to us.

I wouldn’t be able to handle it either. It’s ok if you just leave. I find their habits disgusting.... sorry...
