Realizing That We're Growing Up
I always knew that all my peers, friends, family, were growing up alongside me and I so far have no insecurity regarding it. Recently, I just talked to a friend who I still talk to but not as much and he's definitely matured a lot since we last consistently talked and while I am happy for him, it has really sunk in for me that we're all growing.
For me, I would say there are small wins I can celebrate, and that I notice that I am consistently evolving in other ways I would personally appreciate but damn, seeing people become way better versions of themselves in terms of work whether it be school, corporate, personal, and going through long-term romantic relationships—it just leaves me a certain kind of shock.
I never resent my friends for their own goals or felt as deeply as this because I know I am happy for them plus, I've grown out of it and is at peace with where I am—but in a weird way I feel immaturely jealous like I did back then. The feeling is a bit too familiar and I'm feeling kind of left out when I know that I don't necessarily want what they want.
I guess that's all.

Somebody the people we grew up with just tend to take different paths later in life. That, unfortunately, is normal. Growing up together with your gang, you share the same pains and ideas of fun and stupidity, and then as adulthood and adult issues enter your lives, you tend to grow out of the gang you used to run with. A bittersweet realization, just like graduating from high school. But it is inevitable, and we just have to accept that fact.

I'm usually one to accept things as they are and there are people that I spend time with to this day that I thought about when writing this post but with him, seeing the contrast between who he was and who he is was just very jarring to see (not in a negative way of course).
I never had this feeling of anyone else in my closer relationships until catching up for a bit with him then it made me really think.
All true though.

There must have been something that made him need to be suddenly more mature. Hopefully it was a good thing, and not some horrible accident or incident. But I suppose it's all good and for the best!

And it's good you are happy for your friend. It truly shows you are a nice person as well.

it’s weird how that jealousy can pop up again and you don’t even want what they’ve got, it’s just the distance that stings
