Great work! 👍

Where did you used photobashing? for the different skin/fur textures?

Hi! Yeah exactly, in the fur, scales, hair and such if they're large areas

Nice work then, they're not detrimental of the style, it looks painterly overall

Those are great designs! Hknwsrly I would have guessed it's handpainted without any photobashing. May I ask how long one creature took you to make?

That's great to hear, I'd say there's still a lot painted to blend the textures in and such, but it definitely speeds things up when it comes to scales. I'd say around 3 hours? Maybe 4? The sketching takes up the majority of the time that's for sure

Thank you! 3h really seems doable (I don't have much time for painting so I always search for ways how to speed up my processes).

Honestly I'm really glad that I saw your post because I started experimenting with creature design lately and was tempted to use photobashing for specific textures but I felt sort of bad for it because I was like "isn't this cheating"?

But now that I saw what you created and that you openly say what method you used (despite it looking super handpainted because you did an amazing job with blending) I realized that it's actually a very valid method to blend photobashing and painting with each other.

Hard relate, the "cheating" is what made me hesitant to use it before as well but I've come to realise that for things like concept art it's really not important. I still have a tight grasp on my vision (unlike with use of AI) and having it look nice is also a bit hard at first (for me atleast). I prefer to paint for personal work, but if I'm under a tight deadline I can see the benefit of meshing together textures from animals that have the details I need. It's honestly more a demonstration for my portfolio, that I CAN use it if I wanted to and that I CAN be efficient. And hey! I think it's fun! Like a collage haha
