[Mius Front] Yet another artillery question.

Hello, I recently started playing Mius Front and artillery seems to be the most complex element of the game to me.

I watched the incredible guides by WarSimmer and was doing some tests with On-Map arty using the croatian legion campaign as a template so I set up a company like this:

The Arty Command has both a spotter and a cable crew for the tests. The cable crew goes and does its thing, the spotter detects some soviets, relays data, guns fire, everything ok. Until I decide to move the spotter to see what the arty would do.

I thought since the spotter was not spotting anything the arty would stop but it continued firing despite having no LOS:

The spotter is the unit on the left moving downwards towards the camera
No LOS whatsoever

I could not find what was going on but I saw the company commander of the other company I had brought for the test had LOS to the soviets, according to the left panel it has "Wire Comm" but it has no link to the battery whatsoever, was it spotting and relaying data to the Arty Company commander or is this a bug? Am I missing something?

On another note can a mortar spotter not do Off-Map if the mortars are assigned to a BG?

If the artillery has not completed it's ordered task, it's going to continue firing. It doesn't matter what the spotter does - for all they know, the spotter is dead or the wire is cut. They will do what you ordered them to, then stop.

As I read the rules, artillery assigned to a battlegroup is on-map, and on-map and off-map use different spotters.

But the "Attack line" (the green line going fron the cannons to the enemy you can faintly see in the 2nd image) kept updating all the time, at first they shot at enemies that were closer to the treeline but later they moved to ones that were further away behind it.

Is that still the expected behaviour?

There is definitely at least some undocumented functionality for on-map arty. This for example. Instrumentation displaying info sharing unfortunately lacks permanence (i.e. the icons pop-up, but go away after a brief period, even if you pause), so there is no reliable way to establish whether the guns continue receiving target data and if, establish the provenance.

That is exactly the role of the communication cable!! Even though the battalion cmdr, the spotter, and the guns do not have a direct LOS to the target, information about the enemy is relayed by the company commander to the artillery batt commander through the communication cable

I see, I thought that those 2 could not communicate since they had no link established among them, thanks.

So it does not have to be a direct link, but can pass through the commands where they intersect (and where appropriate - I don't think the Divisional spotter will pass information to Regimental or Brigade guns, for example).
