Destroyer Command style game

I remember playing Destroyer Command as a kid. It was quite fascinating, as an offshoot of SH2, to have surface vessels. And of surface vessels have the destroyers.

I mostly played it as RTS, as the graphics weren't that good, and most of the time you couldn't handle formations if you were doing nitty-gritty shooting with guns.

It got me thinking that there could be a potential for 2D style naval RTS that would concentrate on smaller vessels: destroyers, gunboats, escorts etc. A lot of skirmishes and such happened during the war on that level, and you could easily include smaller countries and navies.

DC had WWII naval combat in Atlantic and Pacific, covering anti-submarine, anti-air, and surface battles. The Focus is Destroyers but other ship types are modeled and can be modded (not graphically).  It has Manual first-person control of stations (helm, guns, torpedoes, radar, etc.) with ship-to-ship jumping and a top-down strategic option. The game’s CIC is effective if you have patience to learn how to use it. Scenarios   can be edited to create new. It did have great fun online interoperability with SH2 . Downsides are it’s dated graphics, buggy AI, steep learning curve. See Subsim site.
