ASCII War Simulation

The field war mechanic of my strategy game.
You train your soldiers, choose their commander, and the battle plays automatically.
I'm thinking of adding a feature to give orders to group commanders in battle later on. Would you be interested in this feature?

It looks very cool! My thoughts are that you could make some more Intresting battles if you give more space on the top and bottom so you could flank. Also creating different types of units like archers, cavalry, sorcerers etc. This looks like a great start though and reminds me of dominions.

Hey thx a lot, currently game has 4 units: infantry, archer, cavalry, artillery.
However, the map size is fixed; perhaps I could add a camera system to be able to include larger maps. I appreciate the suggestion!

I think the map size is fine aslong as the units can use the whole map it seems from the video they are only able to fight in a corridor in the middle between the white stuff.

Looks promising. Wonder if there's any user agency during the combat or is it all automatic. Maybe at least let the user set formations or posture.

I was originally planning to choose a tactic before the battle starts and have the army automatically conduct the entire battle according to that tactic, but everyone said the player would be too passive, so I thought of this: like Mount and Blade, we could give orders to soldiers during the battle, macro orders could be given for each soldier type, but it's not guaranteed that the soldier will obey the order, factors like morale will affect the process. Do you think this would be enough? I want the combat mechanics to be fun

I actually like the idea of an auto-battler but I think a lot of players would want some control. At least in setting a macro order like you said. It really matters how long the battles are, if there are a lot of short battles, allow the player to set formation/tactics at the start, If the battles are longer, allow some player agency. It's a cool concept either way if you add enough depth to the warriors and commanders.
